will you be able to dismount your cavalry in battle or are they suck on their horse
will you be able to dismount your cavalry in battle or are they suck on their horse
you'll be able to dismount some of your cavalry units (don't know if every cavalry unit can be dismounted)

Yes possible, but not in battle, in the campaign before a battle i think.
I dont think you can dismount them. Its rather some foot units that are called dismounted.
Like dismounted knights, they represent the ones who prefered to fight on foot.
EDIT: @previous 2 posts: Are you shure you can dismount somebody?
Isnt it more that some units are just called that?
Was it possible in medieval 1?

I am quite sure that you can dismount cavalry before battle like it was in medieval 1, so they are not recruited as dismounted units but as cavalry units and after battle i think they are going to be mounted again.Originally Posted by CIaagent11

Why would you do that in M1?
Because the horses get killed?
it's not about why it's about that you were able to do that.
sometimes it is better to have infantry units instead cavalry because of tactical reasons.

The mount/dismount options should be included. How many times mounted troops had to fight on foot, because of changing battle situation?. I can understand exception for Kathapaktroi, Gothic Knights or Heavy Hussars(winged) - they shoud stay mounted but for rest of the troops?. I think it is bit off historical accuracy.
I never played medieval. So excuse my uninformedness.
I ony played Rome. I couldnt think of a reason why you would want infantry units instead cavalry because of tactical reasons.
That be said with Rome as background.
So tell me.
Yes you could dismount before a battle in MTW1.
And there are many reasons to dismount. For instance, you are in a siege - cavalry can be very limited in use and cannot be put on walls. Having dismounted chivalric knights, which are VERY heavy infantry, defending a wall can be very advantageous. Cavalry also get bogged down in static fighting or when they are in a crowd - suppose you are fighting in the city streets - being dismounted means you are much less likely to suffer a penalty for fighting mounted in a mob.
Dismounted knights also make excellent defenders - they will still have very high defensive totals and likely are superior to most infantry out there. Also, some light cavalry can be dismounted into spearmen, allowing you to bolster your spear forces if necessary. On that note, if the enemy is made up of many pikes/spearmen units, having dismounted knights lead a charge is much more likely to succeed than having knights charge into those units.
Then again, everyone keeps saying that cavalry was way overpowered in RTW. If this is balanced in MTW2, I'm sure there will be reasons to have some of the knights going on foot. A swordsman is likely more effective on the ground than on horseback if he faces pikemen, as has been said many times.Originally Posted by CIaagent11
