Icon8 Constant crash between turns and after battles

Okay this is really starting to get on my nerves. Normally the crash happens between every 10 turns or so but the game keeps crashing during 1 single turn over and over again. During the AI (KH)'s turn, they send me 2 full stack of army against my army. After beating the first one, the second battle doesn't load. I tried retreating, the game still crashed. I use Steam so I had to install EB in Program Files X86, maybe that has something to do with it? It really is ruining my EB experience, anyone help?

I once had a similar problem. Replacing the EB script file (EB/Data/scipts/show_me/EBBS_SCRIPT.txt) worked for me. I think the file gets damaged with time, especially if you reload the game when you already enabled the script. This would explain why replacing it with a fresh file did the trick. I can't promise that this will solve your problem but you can give it a try.

I had to quit several campaigns because eventually each CTD's on the same turn just like you mentioned. The only Romani campaign I achieved the Marina reforms on. Never even got to use my legions...
Typically I can get to 200BC no problem. But by the time 170BC comes around, I start having issues.
Seems like the further into a campaign I get the more likely the problem...

Which faction are you playing as? I find that Qarthadast crashes every-other battle (I kept track ) Whereas I was able beat the Casse victory conditions without it crashing once. A couple things I've read:
    1. If the Romani are having public order problems the game might get issues.
    2. It helps to move agent/armies/fleets around before ending your turn.
Not sure if those are accurate or not, just something I saw in a separate thread. Otherwise, play as a different faction. Like I said, Qarthadast is basically unplayable for me. Casse and Saka are fairly crash free.

I had the same problem with Quarthadast, I thought it is just me. Do not heard about the advices you have proposed yet.

I am playing as Rome. I'll try replacing the script file, but where do I download the new script file? Anyone?

That's so weird. I have had minor/no problems with every faction I've tried. I have played several campaigns as Carthage with no problems. Completely crash free.
The only campaign I've played past 200BC was a Roman one and it CTD as I mentioned.

I think CTDs also have something to do with the computer you're playing on. One time playing the original RTW I got 3 CTDs in the course of an hour and a half. One of my friends has been playing on a new laptop for a couple years and was surprised the game crashes at all. It might help getting more RAM to avoid memory leaks.

I played a lot as Qarthadastim, Rome and AS (all of them are huge empires) and never experienced consistent CTDs, maybe 1 per 10 years?
Of course, there were certain CTDs when bugged generals or geographical tiles were involved, but that's another thing - that happens with all factions.

Most of the times when you get a CTD, it's not the script's fault, but your computer's fault. Aside from buying a good, new computer, here are some tips:
-defrag the partition that has the game on it
-lower the settings, especially the unit size.
-after a large battle is ended, wait for a few or several seconds (5-20-30 s) and after that exit it. this gives the CPU time to swap all the data it needs.
-do not fight battles on river crossings where there is no bridge (some of those are bugged from my experience)
-if you find a tile that has problems, try to avoid it completely
-move all the characters and armies so that the CPU doesn't do it for you (there are some crashes there as well, due to pathfinding I presume?)

I have never experienced frequent crashes. While I keep my settings on high res and unit scale on large, my laptop can handle it fairly well. However, there are some CTDs, atleast once per hour. Does anyone know why?

Thank you for the link Thuycidides. I hope it may fix my problems with EB and some other RTW mods since I am currently using rather long path.

I tried it and it didn't seem to help, but maybe it works for others. At this point I am just sitting and waiting for EBII. I got a lot of enjoyment out of EB1, but I stopped playing it about 6 months ago because of the ctds.

Unfortunately, I use Steam, so it doesn't help me at all. My Roman campaign is just starting to get good (I've conquered all Carthaginian cities, all of Greece, Italy, and Getai lands. ) I really wanted to see imperial Roman legions, but with CTD every 5 turns, it doesn't look like it's going to happen

What is so had about CTDs? I have had 1 during a major battle in my 1 year of EB. The rest were all minor ones that occurred during the campaign.

What is so hard about CTDs? The game crashes so often that I have a fear of going into field battle. Auto-resolve simply assumes that I'd make the worst decision possible. Mine crashes once every 5 field battles.

could be the new quotes, I would advise to revert to the old ones or remove all but one, and see if that makes a difference.

I never had many CTD problems, as I kind of stated above. Why is it so important? Can't you just revert to a previous auto save?

Yeah, beating much stronger enemy army and having heroic victory is nice for the first 2 times, afterwards it becomes a chore. Anyhow, I've been conquering left and right and the crash problem seems to have gotten better. Maybe it's because I destroyed large AI armies and took their cities and stuff. I don't know.

Maybe this should be on the EB bugs page.
