    Default Need help with RAM

I wonder if anyone can help me with this: I am buying new RAM for my comp and after running CPU-Z i can see that my current ram is:

    Type : DDR-SDRAM PC3200 (200 MHz) - [DDR-400]

Now my question is this. I want to buy DDR2. How can I find out if my motherboard supports it?

    Here is my system:

    Simple: it doesn't.

Why do you want DDR2 ?

Agreed, DDR2 is just a bunch of hype, no outstanding benefit IMHO.

Current DDR2 is hardly any faster, or sometimes even slower, than DDR.
The transfer rate is a bit higher, but the access times are a lot slower.

    The benefits are:
    -lower production costs.
-more room for improvements, so future DDR2 wil be faster (DDR has basically hit it's technological roof)

The only valid reason to want DDR2 for your old system that I can think off is if you plan to buy a new computer within a year and you want to transfer your old RAM into it.

@Erik. The reason I want to buy it is that i am going to build a new system in jan after I get my X-mas money that combined with my savings will buy me a really good system.

Exactly my plan. So just to clarify there is no chance of my mobo suporting it?

    Thanks for the help.

No, DDR2 is simply not compatible with DDR.
It's a totally different standard than needs a totally different architecture.

I think you wil just have to do with what you have for 3 more months.
