    Default How to get pattrens working in game.

    Hey Got a question how do you get new shield patterns to work in game. I made a new variant definitions for a shield, so there in patterns can work. I made a new patterns for the shields of my faction, but when I go to test it the shields are not there (or are invisible). If anyone has ran into these please let me know what to do to fix it. I hope someone know and thank you for your time . Have a great day.

    You have either made a spelling mistake somewhere and it can't find the right path,or you put "/" before ">" where you shouldn't in the texture.Another possible cause might be if you have pointed a wrong path.Check out that everything is correct and the patterns will appear.

    Hmmm, I Checked it out, but it looks all right, do you think if a textures is saved wrong it could effect it?

        </SLOT>
    </VARIANT_MESH>
    This seems to be fine,but just in case check out everything:

    1)Go to variantmeshes/_variantmodels/man/patterns/etruscan and make sure that you have put both the diffuse.dds and the diffuse.texture_array of the pattern you want correctly.

    2)Open the diffuse.texture_array and check for spelling or path mistakes.

    3)Go to variantmeshes/_variantmodels/man/shield and check if you have put your variantmeshdefinition there correctly.

    4)Open the variantmeshdefinition and check for spelling or path mistakes.

    5)Now go to variantmeshes/variantmeshdefinitions and open your unit's description.Make sure that you point the correct path for the unit's shield and you haven't made any spelling mistake there.

    When all 5 steps are done correctly the pattern has to appear.It took some failed efforts to me too to get my first pattern to appear in game,but now I can confidently say that failure on this subject is 99% of the times a spelling mistake in one of the 5 steps above.

    Dose the size of the texture effect the pattern in anyway? The etruscan_diffuse.texture_array looks fine too:

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Code:
    VariantMeshes/_VariantModels/man/patterns/etruscan/etruscan_01_diffuse
    VariantMeshes/_VariantModels/man/patterns/etruscan/etruscan_02_diffuse
    VariantMeshes/_VariantModels/man/patterns/etruscan/etruscan_03_diffuse

    Judging by the picture I think that the game finds the path correctly but the patterns have been saved wrong and that's why they appear grey.Make sure that you select DXT1 and generate mipmaps when you save the pattern in gimp or photoshop.

    Man tried saving in Photoshop and Gimp, still grey. Hmm, I wonder what is up.

    Is there a tutorial for how to make new patterns?

    whats files you have changed? diffuse, normal or both?

    i work only with diffuse - and the patterns work great with DXT3

    I only used diffuse and that was it, is there suppose to be a normal? I did use one of the original textures from the game to get the size for the patterns. I first saved it as DXT1, but when you suggested DXT3, I tried it and still is not working.

    i would say there is somehting wrong with your path - check the file names again. Sorry, i have not enough time to check your files - must finish my unitpack.
    oh, and you need the vanilla patterns, if they are listet in the array.....

    ran into the same problem, only grey shields

    nevermind, found the problem

    shouldn't name it roman and forget the folder roman in the path
