He's a good war movie character, always. Like in Saving Private Ryan, he made a great sniper, and in Enemy of the State, he was a great NSA agent, as well in the Green Mile, he was a great executionar/correctional officer in there too.Originally Posted by Corporal_Hicks

It's good to see that the movie is gonna offer more than fancy battle scenes and actually gives us a look back at the home front and what war actually did to those flag raising heroes. Potentially makes for a deeper movie than "Saving Private Ryan". I especially like the fact that Eastwood went the length to make a japanese version of it as well, filmed in japanese with japanese actors which I consider a rarerity that should be interesting to watch.
Hehe, I didn't see that though...
I saw it and must say that the Letters of Iwo Jima is way more better!...
It even shows the real side of suicide, when they say their last words and stuff and demonstrates reconciliation acts with enemies with is quite rare in war films!..........
well i've seen Letters from Iwo Jima, and it was an excellent movie... altough I think there were some moments where they acted too sympathetic to americans.
I'll see it. Fo' Sho'

I have read this book and persoanlly if the movie is even half as good as the book then I am tempted to believe we will at least have a decent movie on our hands. I hope they do this story justice....
Anwyas I will seee no matter the reviews, it looks like a good movie.
Looks like a very good WW2 movie. and im gonna see it when it comes out.
i will as well. I LOVED the sniper from saving private ryan. He has that "I am warrior" feel. He has the soldier face, as in i believe you can be a soldier but al pachino doesnt cut it. How come clint eastwood isnt in any of these war movies? he made some great westerns.

If the movie was anywhere near as good as the book was, this movie will win best picture. Potentially the next Saving Private Ryan or Braveheart. Full of patriotic overtones coupled with kickass battle scenes.

Why does every WW2 movie to come out of the US have to have patrotic overtones?? Dammit, even the new Transformers movie is full of flag waving nationalismOriginally Posted by Mudd

I've not read the book, but I'd assumed that Eastwood, being somewhat intelligent and accomplished, would have avoided that cliched approach. Of course, the subject of the film will require some patriotic flag waving (quite literally in fact) but there's no need to over do it... really, there isn't.
This part will definitly be interesting, as long as they put as much effort into it as they do with the other American part.Originally Posted by Darkragnar

Its going to a good movie alright but to tell you the truth im much more interseted in Eastwood's other movie "Letter's from Iwo Jima" where he portrayed the Japanese side of Iwo Jima , its suppose to portray the japanese solider's as they were instead of Suicidal fanactic's with a death wish.
There isnt 1 Movie where the Japanese are show in a true light(except Tora Tora Tora) , there alway's cliche'ed to hell, hope this one shows that they wernt preoccupied with death so much as the steriotype would have us believe.

They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say ****, it's raining!![]()
Letter's from Iwo Jima also interests me more. However I think the way they are doing this is superb. Both sides of the same story. Two movies. It should be great, both the films that is.Originally Posted by Darkragnar
I also pointed out to Hicks that a lot of people from Iceland (I think) are playing US soldiers... I found that odd.
Edit: And rhah you are basing that patriotism and flag waving off the scenes from the war bond drive based off the photo of raising that flag. So you are way to quick to judge since obviously the proper way to portray the characters is in a patriotic sense.
I have not read the book that this movie is of course based on and so I am wondering if those who have read it can answer a question for me. Does the book (and subsequently the movie) cover just the events on Iwo Jima or does it delve into the War Bond drive that was a result of the photo? Does it also cover the controvesy of the identification of the 6th man? Also does it at mention that the flag was actually the second flag raised and allued to the controversy that came out of that?
Yes, Yes, and Yes for all three of those. I just finished it todayOriginally Posted by Caius Britannicus
