    Default Terrorist Attack in Russia

Looks like Bandar of the Saudis has struck back at the Russians for this year's many humiliations and frustrations:

At 12.45 we got informed that a boom or a blast was heard in the building of the railway station, Volgograd-1. Smoke was reported,” Svetlana Smolyaninova, a police spokesperson said, according to RIA Novosti. The power of the explosion at Volgograd’s station was equivalent to at least 10 kg TNT, according to Markin.
Interfax’s source said that “the blast happened near the metal detectors located at the entrance to the station.”
One witness told the agency that he saw "two bodies lying in front of the entrance, pieces of shattered glass are everywhere, there's a ton of rubble there." He added that "apparently, the explosion led to a fire, which the firefighters quickly put out."

I wonder how long it will be before the BBC-intelligentsia of TWC blame Putin and Russia for this?

That was a hell of a blast too. I hope not too many people are injured or killed. The shock wave and sound from that would have been paralysing and deafening.

    Sadly, 14 people are dead.

    Apparently a female suicide bomber.

My condolences to the 14 dead and those injured.

    My guess is Dadgestan/Chechen terrorism.

Reasonable guess, this in the south close to the caucasus. Exactly who was butt hurt this time is hard to know, although the Chechens were more famous for their use of female suicide bombers. The Russians will be able to say pretty quickly who it was. Soon.

Even if you are not hurt in the blast, the noise is enough to blow your ear drums out and perhaps do permanent damage to your hearing. Packed with ball bearings, nails, rusty screws or other shrapnel, these things are just so inhumane. And utterly pointless, they do nothing to assist whatever cause is supposedly being championed, and just fuel the resolve of the Russians to fight them. To think that the Russian public is ever going to panic in the face of terror and ask the Russian to somehow change their policy as a result, just means that their enemies do not understand the Russians at all.

Same composition as the bombs in Boston, correct? If so yeah, those things are awful. Makes me ask how people can come up with something so utterly cruel, then I remember we're humans.

I don't get terrorism in this sense, at least not with large nations such as Russia or the United States. It seems they'd have more luck in smaller countries with weaker governments and a people with a culture that doesn't say "Screw with us and we screw with you 10 times more."

Hate to point out the obvious, but both the nations you mention engaged, and still engage in state sponsored terror on an industrial scale, they just call it 'special operations' or 'the war on terror'

Does not in anyway make this right, and I hope the wounded recover.

Only a couple of months since the last female suicide bomber in that city. 7 was killed then. She was from Dagestan.

First I want to say this is an awful event and Russia has my sympathy.

Second, Russia doesn't react well when fanatics attack the Stalingrad.... I mean Volgograd rail station

Russian law enforcement is efficient and very very brutal. However the problem with suicide bombings is, the perpetrator is already (usually unless its a failed attempt) gone. Most have support cells around them, rarely would the bomber make the bomb and source the materials themselves. Russia is a country though where they can round everyone up, the 'usual suspects', guilty or innocent it doesn't matter. And beatings, torture by the cops is common place. You will have the bejesus kicked out of you if you are arrested by the Russian police, and then when transferred to prisons, by the prison guards as well. Expect a serious crackdown on anyone who looks sideways down in that neck of the woods.

A desperate action in order to try to scare Putin to stop supporting Assad. This will only fuel the Russian resolve to deal with Saudi-Arabia and their Chechen cannon fodder.

What do the Saudis have to do with this? It obviously the Chechens. I mean the leader of the terror group has promised more attacks on civilians in Russia. He isn't doing this on behalf of Saudi Arabia.

Saudis did support insurgents in Caucasus in the 1990s and 2000s, doubt it has changed as of now. There are also insurgents from Caucasus fighting for Saudi-backed militants in Syria.

Apparently, the Saudis first tried the carrot with Putin, and when he didn't bite, they threatened the stick, specifically, to let their sponsored Caucasian Islamic freedom fighters off the leash.

    Source?

The Chechen suicide attacks have been going on for at least a decade completely unconnected to Syria.

Quite doubt it's the Saudis. The Chenchen separatist rebels are more likely to be behind this cowardly attack on unarmed civilians. But need to wait for more information before jumping to further conclusions.
