Un-unfortunately, because of unit caps, this would also mean that Rome would have to lose those segmentatas. But at least the barbarian campaigns would be alot more interesting, more realistic fantasy units, less reliance on mercenaries.

Fantasy units? Surely you jest? In truth, we gave a LOT of love to the Barbarian factions, and did a lot of research on them. What in particular do you think is missing?

Celtic Legionaries, Arverni Elephants, maybe some Silver Shield Gauls.

Joking aside, i find that the Arverni lack in regards to "transition infantry." It goes from cheap swords/spears, to one sword, to op nobles? Wheres the middle-man? The Romans had their Legionary cohorts, First cohorts, evocatii, etc. but Arverni get (half) "naked warriors"?

I also think that the Cimbri deserve more faction-exclusive heavy infantry, especially more chainmail.

Germanic tribes had very little acess to industry in RS2 timespan. As for the Arveni, they had no middle-man, their society produced high quality weapon but only warlords could afford for expensive equipment for them and their retinue. The research work of the RS2 team is remarkable in all aspects.
The Dacians rock, the Gallaeci rock, the Scythians rock...lack of love indeed.

Sarcasm! But absolutely right. I remembered an old Boii campaign. Also a very nice barbarian faction. Many units, good position, but surrounded by strong enemies and those Champions! Their helmet is so hilarious. But they make awesome fights. What a sight it was to see arrogant Romans fell as they charged with their Longswords... Ah, memories...

As mentioned, the Barbarians were a 'unique' people in this time period. It is wrong to perceive them in the same way as the Romans or Greeks, as their concept of 'war' and battle were very different. They were generally more 'one on one' warriors who fought for individual honor and glory, and their was a wide gap between the rich nobles and the general spearmen or swordsmen. We actually had a former member of the EB team helping us with them, so I'm confident they are depicted pretty well.

The Cimbri, and Germanic peoples in general, were not as advanced as the Celts, and as said above, didn't have as much access to the weapons and armor like the Celts. They were a 'woods' people. Their units also tended to be very 'specific' and\or religion oriented. The Cherusci, for example, were known as 'the people of the sword'. Bear and wolf warriors were religious fanatics who drugged themselves before battles. The Dacians, who can be very vicious, had no fear of death, believed it was an honor to die, and fought accordingly. I really don't like facing them.

Am I saying that our depiction of Barbarians is complete? No. I'm sure it isn't...but it was\is very hard to find information about them. They built everything out of wood, burned their dead most of the time, and passed weapons and armor down to the next generations. For these reasons, not a lot survives archaeologically in their regard. Scythians and Sarmatians were even harder because they were nomadic.

Legionary cohorts, first legionary cohorts and evocatii are all the same. And naked warriors arenaked. I find it hilarious.

Barbarians didn't have much heavy infantry. Especially not the Cimbrii, which is why, I assume, they haven't that many units with heavy infantry. Instead they get those class bear warriors, wolf warriors and just big axes in general.

The Boii, and the Cimbri are the only ones that have never tried to attack me once I fortified my borders with them. Though I have on accasion gone into their lands and did nasty things to them just for kicks.
