    Icon5 Long turns due to game not responding.

    Hello all

    I've been playing Third Age & MOS on and off the last year. I love the mod, but my turns take 5-10 minutes to complete.
    After trying to fix it again and again, I noticed that when I end my turn and the first AI in que are suppsoe to do his business the games changes from "Running" to "Not Responding" in Task manager..
    Been reading through a bunch of post about long turn times, but never found anyone mentioning the Not Responding part.
    I've spent most of my day trying to make it work again by following the guides, installing stuff to optimize my computer, game booster, etc, Defragmetned my hdd, changing folders ,reinstalling the game and mod and updating all drivers.

    At one point Rohan, wich normaly with me uses around 1 min, used 2 seconds two turns in a row. but then on third turn it used 1 min again and task manager showed the game as "not responding".

    Spec:
    Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532)
    AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1055T Processor (6 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
    Most likely forgot something, so just shout if you need more info^^

    Anyone got any idea how I can fix this?

    I got a steam version of Medieval 2 Kingdoms btw, and the Kingdoms campgain works perfectly.
    Ps, where is the edit button? Im blind too apparantly... or tired..

    Hello there and welcome to TWC Forums!
    You will be able to edit your posts when you reach 25 posts and are at least two weeks registered on TWC.

    Well, MOS is a resource hungry submod due to lot of scripts involved, it needs a good CPU ( and, it needs an Intel CPU cause M2TW engine uses ONLY ONE CPU CORE, and Intel CPU has better working threads per single core than AMD CPU ). M2TW Engine never did like AMD, your best solution is to:

    1. Reinstall Steam M2TW/Kingdoms somewhere else JUST NOT in Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder! Maybe in some C: Games folder..

    2. After that, install TATW all up to 3.2 version, and lower ALL Video options, do not use Large or Huge Unit Size, Campaign Shadows Off, Anti aliasing Off, All Details to low or Medium.

    3. Decline most of MOS Scripts to lower turn time.

    Ah, now I get what you mean^^
    I never played vanilla TATW 3.2 I never got it to wokr, and the next time I tried a friend said I had to install MOS as well. Gonna just install TATW 3.2 now.

    Yeah. Guess I'll have to get my laptop to play MOS.
    But is the cpu the reason the game is not responding during turns?
    Mate got a Intel so I guess htat explain why his turns are way faster than me...

    Is your vanilla TATW not responding too?

    I got a desktop PC.
    Video card : XFX radeon Hd 6870 1gb gddr5 dual fan
    Graphics get 7.8 on Windpws index for whatever it is worth.

    I have reinstalled it all in a differetn folder. I've laos tried to move it to a different folder after install.
    Have tried reducing all graphic and unit sizes. The battles I have no problem with, it's just the insanely long turns.
    Have also declined all MOS scripts in the start witouth any visible difference.
    I did just find a log from what seems to be me playing earlier today with tons of:
    "14:51:10.655 [system.io] [warning] open: models_strat/nazgul.rum is missing" and similar messages repeated, matching the times of a turn.
    And the none of my CPU cores are at 100% during turns or any other parts of the early gameplay.

    Your cores or even mine ( Intel i5 ) will never be used 100% by this M2TW Engine. I have seen people with stronger AMD CPUs than yours ( even overclocked to 4 GHz) which have turn time issue with TATW+MOS. It is an M2TW fault cause it wasn`t optimised for AMDs, only for Intel.

    How long were your turns in vanilla TATW 3.2 ?

    Vanilla TATW 3.2 turns take about 75seconds.

    Mine on Intel i5 2.8 GHz take around 10 seconds..

    You see the difference? Now, multiply that with heavily scripted MOS Submod and you get the picture. In MOS , my turn times were around 30-50 secs, depends on scripts activated.

    During turns, my vanillTATW is alos changing to not responding and back on most of the factions. I imagne that's what causing the turn delay...
    But not for remotly as long as the MOS install.

    Do you have a laptop or Desktop PC? How strong is your Video card?

    I`m not good at reading system.logs.

    Maybe you should stick with vanilla TATW.. or try some other mod. PCP has fast turn times, DaC does it too, and most of the others too.

    1) Have you downloaded and installed ALL four TATW Parts+Patches( 3.0 part 1 and 2, Patches 3.1 and 3.2 ) ?

    2) What MOS version are you using? There is a NEW Version out: MOS 1.6.2 FULL Installer, which means, you do not need to install previous MOS versions, just this one.
