    The Twins
The Twins consists of two identical castles standing on a margin of the Green Fork of the Trident. A stone bridge arches between them. This bridge is wide enough for two wagons to cross abreast, and is guarded by a tower in the middle known as the Water Tower. It is the only crossing point over the Green Fork for hundreds of miles in either direction, from the North to the western Riverlands. It lies directly athwart the main route from Winterfell to Riverrun. The Freys have held the crossing of the Green Fork for six hundred years. It took them three generations to complete the bridge, after which they built timber keeps on each bank of the river. Since then, the Freys have grown wealthy by charging a heavy toll on all those who need to cross - a fact which irks many older or more powerful houses. The timber keeps have since been replaced by stone. These castles are what give the stronghold its name, for they are identical. They have high curtain walls, deep moats and a barbican and portcullis in each. The bridge footings rise from within the inner keeps. Given their strong castle, strategic location, wealth, and numbers, the Freys are one of the most powerful banner houses sworn to House Tully. The seat of the Lord of The Crossing is a massive chair of black oak. Its back is carved in the shape of two towers joined by an arched bridge

    • The Crossing: Consisting of two identical castles straddling the Green Fork, The Twins is not a pretty fortress, but it is a fortress nonetheless, and a vital one, for it controls one of the few river crossings. +3 to siege defense.
    • Toll: Due to the influx of merchants and lords who cross the twins, House Frey has made a pretty penny on crossing fees. +2.5% to income.

      • Ser Daeron is the lord of the Crossing and a martial man. However he has an unnatural fondness of sweets and puns which makes him obnoxious to others. On the battlefield he leads the men of house Frey. He is married to a fat daughter of house Piper. She was once considered a beauty before her husband showered her in treats that has made her known as the Whale in the Green Fork. But Daeron still loves and once said that now there is only more of his wife to love and threatens any man who dares insult her.

OOC: Letter will of course arrive after the war being solved, which should be soon.

To Lord Eddard Frey of the Twins,
as a sign of your efforts inside your own keep, though they can't be seen as honourable and they were only done by my uncle, as he had believed that he would safe with this the Riverlands,
we would like to propose you a marriage between one of your sons and my sister Darlessa Tully to strengthen the ties between our families. Both our families have suffered from the war and we have to mourn many deaths after the sacking of the whole Riverlands by the Lannisters, but I hope that we can soon celebrate
a union between two old families of the Riverlands.
I hope the marriage between our Houses will also make the image of your House as 'upstarts' finally vanish from the talkings of other lords, as I don't think that it is the truth. The efforts of your ancestors, who saw the need in building a bridge at a keyposition between the North and the Riverlands, should be honoured, as otherwise this war would have taken a more grave outcome without your castles.

Currently, we're rebuilding our fortress, but if House Frey is nevertheless in need of aid, we will see, what we can do about it.
    Honour, Duty, Family
Lord Edric Tully, Lord Paramount of the Riverlands, Lord of Riverrun

    A raven arrives:

"To Lord Eddard Frey of the Twins:

After I arrived to my new seat at Stonedance, I was surprised to see that floods and bad management had ruined our crops, and that the land was unattended, few remain active nowadays. Until our farmland is back at it's full, we are in need of wheat and grain, for our smallfolk shall not suffer hunger. If your Lordship was so kind to open a trade lane between us, House Targaryen, and your Lordly House, Frey, we will be so grateful in the future. In turn, we will send our delicate, and expensive, perfumes for your vassals and Household to enjoy and delight with.

In the Light of the Seven"

A raven arrives, with a scythe on the seal:

My Lord Eddard Frey of the Crossing:

It's well known that you have many of your sons avalaible for marriage, such I offer you the hand of one of my daugthers, Asha or Lynesse (born 181 and 181 after the Landing). They are fair, of the best Ironborn stock, being not only related to Greyjoys, but also with Hammerhand and every other House in the islands. We would rejoice with a wedding between both our Houses, and I would be honoured if your lordship invites me to the Twins, to discuss the arrangement, if agreed, and to celebrate the wedding soon afterwards.

(If I had posted when I actually left the Northern host, my army would be here 12 hours before this post, [Long before your levies were called up, FYI])

Around three-thousand men march up to the southern bank of the Twins, coming out of the Hag's Mire from the direction of Seven Streams.
Black banners carrying the white sun of Karhold hang above them, and a small group of riders ride forth towards the southern tower, bearing a white flag.

Ser Jaime rides out to meet them, together with three handsomely mustached men. "Northerners! Did the Lioness scare you off?" Asks a man with a red mustache.

Harrold Karstark appeared from his group of retainers, glancing past the the Freys towards the Twins.
He was red-haired, and thinner than the stereotypical Karstark, who were big, bearded men.

"Despite my oaths, I will not march my bannermen into such certain massacre."
He tilted his head, look at the bridge beyond.
"We seek passage across the Twins."

The young Frey speaks with a haughty grin. "But that's an awful big lot of Northerners over there. And my lord grandfather just repaired this bridge. All those boots stomping on it at the same time..." He shuddered. "Could frustrate the foundations. We're going to need some compensation." Jaime Frey had but a few wisps of light hair on his upper lip and red dots spread across his face. "A dragon for every pair of feet that walks over. And two dragons for every four hooves."

The young Northern lord had a straight, pointed nose, and kept himself clean-shaven. His eyes were a bright grey, typical of First-Men.
His hair was a straight, dark-red, falling to his shoulders.

Karstark glanced back behind him, to where the Karhold banners flung in the wind, and then back to this knight of the Crossing.
His expression looked a bit tired overall, but a little concerned now.
"I do not carry such wealth, not on march."

"We can take a guest to stay with us until the gold has been sent south."
The Frey offered. "Or... You can tell me why in the seven hells the Starks have marched on the Westerlands. Information has it's values as well." The black mustache sighed.

A raven with the scythe arrives:

    My Lord Frey:

Now you are related to the Iron King, as I have been elected as such by the Kingsmoot, Harren II Harlaw. While I don't hold in high steem the Northern ambitions in the South, all would be easier if you grant passage forces heading South, but to block, as you can without angering them, all heading North, as enraged Westerlanders, those dogs, or at least make them lose time before your halls and bridge. If you did so, a sizable percentage of our loot in the incoming times will be directed to your Lordly vaults.
I hope my daughter has found a new home in the Twins, my Lord Eddard.

Harrold paused for a few long moments, looking a little pained.
"Some contend independence is best preserved through aggression," he spoke, implying the obvious.
A few of the retainers glanced at their lord in slight surprise.

A retinue, of ten guardsmen arrives to the Twins. At it's head, Lady Asha Harlaw, with two maids, and the leader of her escort. She wears a silvery gown, with black sleeves. Four men carry heavy chests, filled with golden dragons.

The Northerners were insane clearly, the brown mustache though. Instead of holding Moat Cailin and declaring themselves free from the Iron Throne in the safety of Winterfell's walls they marched all the way south and attacked the richest most powerful land of all? They all sighed. "Come with me. It is better if you speak with my lord father." His hand pointed at the Twins. Jaime's expression had changed slightly. It had become more serious.

Harrold shared a concerned look with his vassal, Lord Lightfoot, before nodding and accepting the invitation to enter the Twins.
"Very well. I will speak with the Lord of the Crossing then."

Ten of his retainers came along with him.

"Bugger." Jaime exclaimed when they entered the hall. Lord Frey of the Crossing had peacefully passed away on his black oak chair before tumbling down and smashing into the floor.
"It seems like Lord Ed died."
    "Heart attack."
"I thought he choked on a fly?"
Whilst the servants chattered and speculated. The new lord of the Twins was sobbing uncontrollably. His tears rained on the dead lord's face, and sometimes hit him in the mouth. "Who are these?" Lord Daeron asked when he saw Harrold and his men.
"The Karstarks, they want to cross."
Daeron looked up with tearful eyes. "Welcome... Uh. Meet me in the study. I'll be there shortly." Jaime shrugged and continued, walking up a few stairs before guiding them into a small room, where an abnormally fat woman sat, chewing on ribs.

The men from Karhold looked quite bewildered by the scene before them, and Harrold proceeded to the small study all while watching the scene with a look of puzzlement.
He frowned a little at the obese woman in the room once inside.

Between chews she said, "Welcome... I am... Lady Frey..." She smiled with pieces of meat stuck between her teeth. Lord Daeron came through the door momentarily. The lady had gone back to eating, ignoring the guests. "Please sit."
Daeron said. His eyes were red and his nose was running. "Jaime tells me that you've abandoned the Stark's campaign."

Harrold took a moment to answer, sitting and thinking.
"Doom awaits them," he claimed, nodding.

"As certain as certain can be, it is unwise to cross house Lannister. Do you expect the king to reward your retreat with lordship over the North? There is only a boy left now of the Starks. He could easily be replaced with a more loyal northern lord like yourself." Daeron made Jaime's thoughts heard tiredly.
