    Default Need new mouse

Yesterday, my old basic Fujitsu Siemens wired optical mouse's wheel broke. I can click it, but I can't scroll up or down, which I found very annoying for example in RTW. I can still roll it, nothing just happens and it doesn't make a sound. I believe that it is impossible/very hard to fix, so I think that I'll just buy a new mouse..

Now, do you have any recommendations? Nothing fancy, nothing expensive, I'd say around max 20€. (+/-10 or so...). I'm not too picky about my mouse, I've never used any fancy, but I'd like one you use and can recommend. The number of buttons doesn't matter, but the two buttons, the wheel is a must. I'd prefer wired because it's cheaper and I've heard that sometimes you can lose your signal (this was a few years ago, don't know if it's still a problem). Plus I need at least an optical mouse, maybe even laser (probably not, as it costs too much  ).

No idea what I should buy, but I've thought of Logitech, isn't that a good brand?

I have gone trough several mice in my life.

Currently I have a Logitech MX1000 laser mouse.
It's expensive but it's defenately worth the money.

The difference between Logitechs "new" laser optics and the standard optics is amazing.
It realy makes mouse control a lot easier, comparable to the difference between a trackball and standard optics.

I would never go back to the old "standard" optics, even is that means I have to buy a cheaper cpu and video card.
Having a good mouse makes computing a lot more enjoyable, and the difference is a lot biger than having a few extra fps.

About the wireless causing problems: I had that sometimes with my old logitech mouse, but never with my new one.
I think a cord is very annoying because for some reason it always gets snagged with me.
It's pobably because of the way I use my mouse, and not everybody wil have the same problem.
If the cord doesn't bother you you don't need a coardless mouse.

You probably want to take a look at this mouse:

    Logitech® G3 Laser Mouse
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=11769
It's priced at $60, but it's probably the best "simple" mouse our there.

I have a razer copperhead. The coolest looking mouse out there i.m.o. And the most important reason for me to buy it, since I am a sucker for blue neon lights . Fortunately it a really good mouse too. Very accurate and it's hold is very good. It is kinda expensice though.

Currently I have a logitech MX5000 combo, the keyboard works great, but the bluetooth in the MX1000 mouse sucks. I had the old RF version of the mouse before (I sold it to my roomate damnit) and it was awesome, well worth the money. The latest software update from logitech seems to have somewhat fixed the lag issue with the bluetooth, but its still not perfect.

I am thinking of getting a G7 laser when next I order parts, it looks to have a better sensor then the MX1000.

    Yeah, was thinking on that...

    Got a prebuilt Fujitsu Siemens:

    AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1024MB RAM (System Req. Lab says 123.5... )
PNY Verto GeForce 7600GS (APG 8X)
    120GB Seagate HDD

That's about all you need to know, I have a crappy Gigabyte MoBo I think (find another thread by me  )

For my next rig though, I was thinking of buying a Logitech G15 gaming keyboard and maybe a G5 mouse

(not sure about the mouse though, but I know I want it to be good  . And maybe I should stay at the G-series?) In one of the computer shops near me you can get these for 140€ when you buy a computer.

Why don't you buy that now, and use if for both your old and your new rig?

Like krazykarl pointed out: a good mouse can outlive a computer.

The G-series are the newest and best mice from Logitech.
The MX-series are a bit older and less advanced, but still lightyears ahead of most other mice.

If I had to buy a new mouse I would go for a G-series, almost certainly the top of the line G-7.
But I'm still very happy with my MX1000, so I won't replace it anytime soon.

Meh, I gotta charge it every single *******ing day? I'm not too keen about that...
Nah, just once a week or less.
Maybe twice a week max, if you use your computer all day long.

And recharging doesn't take that long: about half an hour to go from fully empty to fully charged, just 5-10 minutes wil allow you to use if for a few more hours.

If you can get yourself into the habit of storing your mouse into it's neat recharger/radio-receiver whenever you don't use your computer then it's no problem at all.

I long ago decided I didn't need the Cadillac of mice, and I've been using the same Kensington Optical mouse I bought 4 years ago for less than 25 dollars. This thing has seen heavy use throughout it's life and has survived numerous accidents, spills, falls, etc. and still works perfectly.

I also hate cordless mice. I don't mind having the cord since it's much easier than having to replace batteries or recharge it. That and I don't want my mouse to fail at a critical moment in a game like BF2 or something.

Well, I don't do that because I need to save my money for the new computer

Get a Logitech MX518 gaming mouse. It's a perfect blend of price and quality, and is generally considered by gamers to be the best choice if you can't afford a Copperhead or Diamondback. I've got one and I love it, especially the way you can program different levels of sensitivity to different games - I'm my system I have 5 levels of sensitivity for Rome, and switch between them depending on whether I'm needing fast responses for a battle or a more gradual scrolls for the map. The levels are changed with buttons on the mouse in real time without leaving the game

My recommendation: don't get a Microsoft mouse. Other than that go for a cheap and easy to replace optical mouse and you'd probably be nicely served.

If you get a good mouse, it will last you years. IO peripherals are in the same class as monitors, they dont follow the same cycle of obsolescence that the innards of your computer do. Dont cheap out, a good mouse and keyboard are well worth the investment of ~$100+

Now I have MX1000 Laser Cordless...

    Works pretty good.

I got for like 50$.. but you can get it cheaper from NewEgg and such (I got it from local store, because they sold it for like 30$)

When it fully charge it can work all day. (Just remember to charge it each night)
You don't have to worry about batteries and such.

I have no idea what 20(dont have the symbol) is in $'s. But get a good gaming mouse. I got a logitech one for around $40 and I will never go back to a plain mouse. The extra buttons etc, are way to usefull for all kinds of games. I really dont know how I could go back to using a plain mouse.
