I disagree. I think its a okay game. Nowhere close to deserving of the Game of the Year unless it is from like "real-time battles and turn base game play magazine" that no one would give aabout thier opinion. But PC Gamer is read by thousands of players and its misleading as hell. And lets be honest if 8 out of 10 reviews gave Rome 2 a 8/10 90% of people would think Rome 2 was 8/10 and proceed no further.
I agree.
I love the beautiful siege torches,
Jesus of Nazareth Generals who talk on water,
Passive-Agressive 3 unit invasion AI forces,
Decisive battle AI loitering,
Countless payed DLC's,
Stunningly accurate marketing,
Seamless multiplayer when not in campaign or battle.
Great game.
All around great game.

well...peoples standards of what is great and not so great vary considerably...
there is even some around who do love trash movies and rectal fisting...that doesnt make it great for others
and to be honest...I can imagine that those who have a tendency for console type entertainment will find it to be a fantastic game not to mention those of the new target audience (the low brain-activity casual gamer) who certainly love the game...again...that doesnt make it great for others
Those kinds of comments make my gears grind. I find Rome II pretty enjoyable. Yet at the same time I'm able to sit around and play Vicky 2, CKII, EUIV, Rise of Flight, etc...
But I guess people can't like different kinds of games, right? You have to be part of a set, and quite honestly its an insulting set.

That is all and that is what CA is after these days.
RTWRM - back to basics
Besides as much as i agree as everyone being entitled to their own tastes and opinions, bugs and glitches are objective criteria. Only fools would deny that rome 2 is full of gamebreaking glitches. So, rome 2 being considered a bad game is not something that I consider to be subjective. It is not a matter of taste.

how can this drivel be even considered game of the year?
While I cannot play it without Divide Et Impera, the sieges are just broken and just pure!
The animations stutter and clips, and the units's mesh/models/whatever start to tear and dance...its so difficult to explain because its messed up...
While the camera movement is smooth as silk, the animations are a slideshow....what a disappointment..CA shouldve postponed the release another year or two
Im really starting to question the integrity and credibility of so called official game reviewers...just because they are licensed doesnt mean they have legitimacy..
Licensed reviewers are, without a doubt, bribed by developers to get positive reviews
its been this long since the game came out and yet your still ranting on about its a "terrible" game?! its fixed! iv experienced no bugs what so ever since the patches came out and im having a great time with this game. yes it was buggy at release but maybe you should know by now that you shouldn't preorder tw games. they are always buggy at release. now stop ranting about it or just don't go here. creative assembly never read this stuff and its not like there going to change anything.
Obvious troll is obvious.
I think you're wasting your time. I've tried to reason with one AMD "streamlined" CPU fan, that insisted on running Rome 2 on ultra in 50-60 fps. Witcher 2 on ultra did the same by him.
relax guys...still a million people out there which will fit perfect in my little generalization,so what ?
ohhh..I see..the cherrypicking fallacy...you feel adressed so you had to jump on it but that doesnt invalidate my point
(even if it does not apply to you personally)...
but then again...even the bluntest tool in the box thinks he is quite intelligent but if he really would be intelligent he would realize how dumb he is but then again...if he would be clever enough to realize how dumb he is he would have to be considered intelligent again...hmmmm...interesting catch 88, isnt it ?..just kidding...no hard feelings![]()

Is this a joke?
maybe it was game of the year in its category. how many other games like R2 are there that are better?
