to be frank now that i investigate it, all of the Game of the year recipients kinda suck, except maybe tomb raider (wasn't it released in 2012 or am i insane?) Stanley parable and Bioshock. Battlefield is a rehash, haven't heard of the other indie games, Rising storm is just an addon to Red orchestra, Dota 2 is overrated and the rest kinda suck. Probably the weakest list in pc gaming history, I mean there has to be better games (or at least ones that could bribe a little more?)

And ROme 2 being on there is a ing joke. It might deserve biggest waste of 20GB of hardrive award of the year.

With that said. Anyone who gives a what magazines title game of the year dont know how to think for themselves.

What a load of, with respect, horsecrap.. how am I supposed to think for myself about a game that I have not yet bought or experienced. The whole point of journalism is for them(informed professionals) to inform the public(as in me) whether something is good or bad. But nowadays if I want unbiased, informed criticism I have to swim through the that is the Internet, and try to sift out what is just pure nonsense and what is fact. How is that acceptable? Oh... and it's not even close to a great game...

But in all seriousness.. what are people expecting from big time gaming journalism? Last night I saw an IGN newscast that was "brought to me" by Battlefield 4... they literally are being payed by the companies to advertise the products they are supposed to be objectively reviewing..

PC Gamer are one of the worse reviewing sites, look what they gave dragon age 2 and dead space 3 and compare that tomb raider and max payne 3, if you want honest opinions just watch angry joe or total busquit , so don't even bother with their lists they always suck.

I found it strange that TotalBiscuit did not review the cluster that was Rome 2.. is he still boycotting Sega?

People are still reading magazines ? I mean I still do occasionally while doing things in the toilet every evening but most of the times I don't even remember what I read. Really ? People can be work up for magazine articles ? Wow.

It's an opinion. Would you all just stop. They're not making some claim that Rome II is a revolution in gaming and has changed their lives, they're saying that they happen to have enjoyed playing Rome II this year. If you think it's a crappy game, why devote so much of your time to it? Clearly you enjoy some aspects of it enough to have spent the past 3 months on a sub-section of a fan forum dedicated to it.

I was done with PCGamer when they gave Dragon Age 2 a 94.

But hey, glad to See Papers, Please and Saints Row IV get some recognition. Both amazing games for entirely different reasons.

And Gone Home being on that list is more of a joke than Rome

I was already ignoring anything PC gamer said after their glowing review of Rome II. It's a joke to me now. Will never trust a word any professional reviewer or games magazine say ever again.

Pc Gamer magazine has been going downhill in my book for several years now. Their current crop of dorky hipsters posing as actual writers/reviewers just confirms the fact. Rome 2 is less then stellar as is that waste of paper.

Maybe TW:R2 compete for broken game of the year.
It would make sense as PC Gamer list Battlefield 4 too, a game soon more renown for potential lawsuits against the publisher than anything else (apart bugs, of course ).
BF4 second class-action (quality of game), BF4 first potential lawsuit and BF4 third class-action (misleading shareholder).


More seriously, looking at PC Gamer list, it looks like more as a "marketing" plan than a real and serious "Game of the Year" review.
It's seems the list is only composed of "blockbusters", but maybe am I wrong, on the other hand Papers, Please look like being an "ovni" in the list.

I doubt that magazines can be trusted, particularly their reviews.
This has been particularly true with TW:R2, and I doubt it is different with other big AAA games. To much money are at stake.

To paraphrase Marcellus from Hamlet, "There is something rotten in the game industry"...

I really don't even know what to say. I remember when PC Gamer was a friend to the little guy. Apparently they are more interested in taking bribes from big companies now to get thier game on thier list.

I don't understand all the hate. Rome 2 is an amazing game. During battles the AI flanks my archers and goes straight for my pikes like any real cavalry unit would do.

Btw. pikes don't work as they should. Rome 1 got it right though.
