Default Who also found this strange?

    Hi y'all
As a way of getting hyped up for M2TW, I've gone back and started playing RTW again. (RTW Vanilla, that is)

One thing that I always found odd was this one region on the map called Hyperboria (forgot the city name sorry). Its a region found to the North West of the map, its just above another Scythian settlement, and its a damn nuisance. Why?

    1. When you want to conquer the entire map, its such an irritation to see a slither of land thats not in your factions colour. When you decide to send troops to go sort this out, they have to go through 10 turns or something before you get through the swamp land and attack the settlement!

    2. What's up with the Amazons? I realise that CA doesnt try to make this as historically accurate as possible, but I was like "WTF man?" to myself when I saw it. Yes, the Amazonian Chariots look great, but what a waste on one settlement!

I understand that once the player gets past the swamp land, it would be anti-climatic to just face off against the same barbarian peasants. But seriously!

(if this was already posted on another thread please delete)

Meh, I thought it was rather cool. It is just an easter egg that all games have in them. Just like Domus Dolcis Domus (sp?) which means Home Sweet Home in Latin, and the yubtesB Elephants and the Egyptian demand for protectorate which is "All your base are belong to us."
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be used until they try and take it away.

I remember the time when I first went to conquer that place. I had my elite northern army (Julii) with me. Urban cohort etc. most units had golden chevrons. Then those bastards ambushed me in the forest. I thought "Well peace of cake, a chariot army, I'll just put my men to defensive positions" Then those chariots just ran through my men, maybe thousand men were killed and the rest routed. I got 0 kills... Lost my best army, but that was kind of funny.

What happens there? I never reached that settlement and I can't find any 'special' chariots in descr_units (although I can find those stupid name elephants).

Do those 'strange' elephants apear in the campaing? How are they? (stats and skin)

I played Vaniila Rome many times, and never had the opportunity to move into the area of the Amazons. I usually play Scippi. Having heard about them over the forums, I once detached a older, feeble and essentialy useless family member with a few older units to that part of the map. He left from the area of Pella, and over the years moved through Scythian territory, past a few German columns, and then finally to the area of the famed Amazonian women. Moving over the shallow river passage next to the city, he was ambushed by the rebels. Though he was able to form lines and put up resistance, the chariots were behind him and understrength Hastati units routed, leaving him and a few merc hoplite groups on the hill. He put up a stand that would make Custer proud, but in the end was mowed down by the rebels.

So Ive never been to the city, but I here its nice.

My first assault was actually succesful, and I had no idea what I was doing the first time I played the game. The first time I encountered the Amazons I was the Germans, making my eastward expansion into the steppes. I sent an army of mostly light cavalry, with some merc horse archers. I was still using my "put all of the units together into one big clump, and charge all together" strategy. It worked, actually. One by one, the far superior Amazon Chariots fell before my clumsy, half-retarded onslaught.

My first assault on the amazon country was too easy. In fact, I didn't realize I was fighting chariots until I entered the levelled village to fight off the last 12 women.
I had 16 onagers (8 units) and a whole bunch of archers. I made them use fire, and after 5 minutes I just waltzed in over burnt corpses. I think I suffered 3 casualties from friendly fire.

I remember the "all your base are belong to us", amazon hordes, Home Sweet Home, and oliphaunt things. Silly randomness. A lot of games have odd "eggs" lying around.

    I have to try this.
Once I get that far in my Egyptian campaign, i'm gonna throw a full 20 stack of chariots at them just for kicks and giggles and see what happens.

Ca have always put bits of humour into their games, like in RTw when you build aqueducts, in the building construction summary for that turn the description says "What did the Romans ever do for us? This, that's what?" mimicing Monty Python.

I beat them first time with 20 Scythian horse archers (nobles? i think they're called. they were the better cav archers.) i like that these units were put in, but i think they should've been cavalry since it would be more realistic (i've heard that scientist have actually found a society in siberia where the women r the hunters and horse riders and dominant over men. and they're also in the story of troy). but i have to agree that when fighting them with romans on hard and vh it is a damn pain in the ass.
