    Default Charge once or always?

So in MTW1 mounted knights equipted with spears used to charge into infantry, then breakthrough, turn back and charge again.

In RTW there weren't such units, so all cavalary charged into infantry once and remained in "close combat", so since MTW2 is again in the late middle ages, how those knights will behave? :tooth:

I really enyojed that MTW1 version

What? Personally I found retreating from a battle easier in RTW. In MTW my troops never followed my orders, and that made "parthian" tactics hard.

In Medieaval, units were pretty impossible to control. I didn't play Medieval for 2 years when I got Rome. When I tried Medieval again, it felt horrible. Cavalry units kept breaking all the time and running around pointlessly, it was hard to flank enemy because horses were so slow, and when I tried to bypass an enemy unit, they just started fighting with them. And cavalry "charge" was really awful. I used to play Medieval a lot many years ago, but after Rome, battles feel so... Just don't like it.
So I hope they don't take those things to Medieval 2. Cavalry should charge once, and if the enemy doesen't break, then keep fighting or let the player pull them off. Really want to see cavalry charging in Medieval 2, could be awesome.

Oh yeah? Do you think those knights with 5+ meters long spears used to stick enemies stopped?

I found this out to. I really bugged me that cavalry controlled by the AI would simply charge in and fight until they won/died/routed and wouldnt pull back and charge again to make use of the fact that they are swift and powerful, however, i found that with several mods (e.g. Darth mod) this changed and cavalry would pull out and repeatedly charge other units.

Personally though, I think (although im not really sure about this) that mediaval cavalry would stick it out to the end as they were so well armoured and could dismount, so I assume that they will behave in a similar fashion in M2TW.

Just hope that good hevay cavalery is able to crush a weak foot army. If my Gothic knights are stopped fully by two lines of peasant archers I will be pretty ******.

I imagine after the initial charge they would switch to a sword or other close combat weapon. Obviously they wouldn't continue to use their lances.

I doubt we will have any problems with peasants. I haven't played RTW with peasants in forever, as I have been playing the RTR mod since it was first released, but I remember that they particularly were worthless for anything, even flanking.

Seeing the AI use repeated charge tactics and take full advantage of the shock value that heavy cavalry have to break through lines and disrupt formations would be very nice to see.
