In my current Makedon game, out of nothing a huge army of frozen and hungry Arverni stared accross the Bosporus at the city gates of Byzantium.
Any idea by which game mechanics they got there ?

Did you take Bysantium from them? Maybe some city in the East revolted to them? And this is the army they sent out of the city before it was taken? Or maybe Byzantium itself once held those barbarians? I don't trust Arverni. For all you know, they could be feasting in Pella already......

It's probably from Ankyra - it tends to revolt to the Arverni (occasionally the Aedui), and the Apeleutheroi are a dead giveaway that they came from a city revolt.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

This happens in almost every game because the ai is incompetent at holding Ankyra.

Thanks - I checked it, and indeed the Averni own Ankyra now. Well-remembered common Celtic-Galatian Anchestry, eh ?
Please don't send them to Vesontio. I have enough Arverni full stacks at my door.
