How to capture province with elephants using horse archers.

I fought nice battle.
Settings are battle hard and unit large, armenia .
On campaign map I lay siege on some little seleucid town. My forces were two horse archers, garrison was war elephants

, peltasts, levy pikeman and militia hoplites.
AI atepted to breake the siege and there was a battle.
I have little hope to do anything but I tried

When infantry walk by gate I take my cav close to maximize damage. I charged peltasts and rout them not chasing because of hoplites and phalangites. Then elephants came by. Peltast rally and returned to battle. By that time hoplites and pikemans had half squad killed by arrows. I command one of my archers to shoot at the elephants

and others to infantry. Elephants start chaseing my cav (which was general unit). With other unit i again charged peltast, routed them and manged get to the city with routing unit. Well I was bit suprised, all enemy units were outside and i capture nearest gate (southern). AI start walking with infantry to the western gate but i was quicker, By that time elefants finished trampling my poors general unit

and start coming back to the eastern gate. Infantry was moving to the northern. I took my cav and run to eastern and capture it. I was suprised

because elephabts dont bash the gate but walk to the northern. Then i run to the plaza and starts to wait. Seleucid infantry enters city by the northern gate, but they were exhausted so they walk slowly and literaly when seleucid soldier were going to put his feet on the plaza time runs out

, and that how i conquered province with 2 horse archers .
P.S. Earlier in that campaign i mange to shoot 3 elephants with HA unit

Question; Did you have your general's unit firing fire arrows? That could have helped you a bit IMO. If using fire and you kill an elephant or two, the chances of the whole unit routing/going berserk is much higher I believe.
