    Default Filming a short documentary

On the life of the Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca. In my search for graphically and visually stimulating ways to show battle tactics of the second punic war, Ive decided to consider using the Rome Total War engine with a video capturing program. I am a film student of Brooks Institute of Photography in Southern California, and will be compiling most of these visuals and information into a short (10 minute) documentary outlining some of Hannibals most famous victories. If anyone could give me a recomendation regarding a mod that might help me remove some of the borders and "taskbars" on the in-game battle sequences to make it more cinematic I would be most appreciative.

Any and all information that might help me realize the goals of this documentary would be appreciated. If you have any ideas or suggestions on the subject. Feel free to email me Double_A_Ron00@hotmail.com

    Or contact me through MSN/AIM

My sincere thanks for anyone who takes a look at this.

    Here is my advice:

-Make sure that you have RTW v1.2 (this is very important).
-Download a mod that is compatible with v1.2 (Europa Barbororum comes to mind) This is not necessary but will give you more realistic looking units.
-Use the in game movie cam to render video. The below may help with this:

So you end up with this:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -movie_cam

To use the movie cam, just load a replay from a custom battle (remember it only works with custom and online battles). Once loaded, you will notice the movie cam is enabled when you see the blue text and all. Go Here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49260 for more info on using the move cam.

See also 1hHoplite’s movie cam guide here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16473
Another option you have (if you have other video capture software) is to enable the movie cam, play a battle, save replay, open replay (this is so you dont have any interface with it) and then as you replay the battle begin to capture the scenes.

Hope that gets you off to the right start.

Pretty much everything the above person said. If you use 1.2 then you should use the movie cam. If you use a later movie you wont be able to render the video. So you would need to use Game Cam or Fraps (gamecam lags less with rtw)

But if you go into properties, set SHOWBANNERS (mabye ENABLEBANNERS, not sure) and set it to FALSE, then they wont show in your video.

Can't you use the movie cam with 1.5/1.6?? I thought you could...

I used it, put in the sections, but it froze when rendering. I just thought it was something else...

You can use the movie cam in all versions, but only in v1.2 can you actually render video through the movie cam.

    Ah, OK, thanks for that

Well, that was a surprising drawback! Damn, why did they make it like that?
