    Default The Third Age: Reborn?

    Hello all.
I am new to the modding community but have modded simple games before. I am a die-hard Total War fan and even more of a Lord of the Rings fan. Third Age: Total War is ranked 3rd out of over 20,000 mods on Mod Database. I have a dream, a huge one, perhaps impossible, but a dream nonetheless, to create some sort of complete overhaul for either Shogun 2 or Rome 2 Total War, depicting the setting, theme, and story of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I am good with computers and pretty smart, and willing to see this through, but I am only 16 so would not have access to a lot of money if that is required for this sort of project. I really loved Third Age as did tens of thousands of others, and would love to try to re-create it using a more current-gen TW game with better graphics and AI. I know I am asking a lot right off the bat, but does anyone know how I could get started, or how to find someone to help me out?

Wait for the modding summit to see if CA release tools to edit the campaign map and probably easier to import new models which certainly needed for total conversion. In any case it doesn't matter whether you're 16 or 60 to do any modding. You don't need any money at all to mod. Only time.

How will I know when CA releases any of these tools?

The Modding Summit. CA will not invite modders just for ice cream and pizza.

When CA release modding tools pour your heart and soul into making a functional LOTR campaign map. Then you will hold in your hand the key to inticing other modders/modelers/artists to put in what will be comparitively easy work to complete the total conversion.

Nobody will ever consider making a LOTR mod unless what many consider to be impossible, a accurate LOTR campaign map, is created first.

Thank you very much for your reply, it is encouraging. I will absolutely put time, effort, and love into creating an accurate map if tools are released.

If you find textures/skins you think will be useful, you can start now. For example, I've noticed the lorica squamata could make Rohirrim armour. If watch the scene before Gandalf enters the Golden Hall, the Rohirrim guard wear scale armour and an iron collar. The squamata is that shape albeit shorter.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I am me. You are not me. You are you. If I was you, I wouldn't be me.
If you were me, I'd be sad.But I wouldn't then be me because you'd be me so you wouldn't be me because I wasn't me because you were me but you couldn't be because I'd be a different me. I'd rather be any kind of bird (apart from a goose) than be you because to be you I'd have to not be me which I couldn't do unless someone else was me but then they would be you aswell so there would still be no me. They would be you because I was you so to restore balance you would have to be me and them meaning all three of us would become one continously the same. That would be very bad.

CA release an assembly kit for TWR2

Some modders also managed to change the campaign map for TWS2 so

Anybody here investigating of TATW could be ported to warscape ?

I don't know if any modding teams have ever tried to develop tools to automate the port of mods from Med2 to warscape games ?

Thank you very much for your reply. I don't know what war scape is or if there is a way to transfer mods, but I don't mine starting from scratch. Who knows? Maybe this could make its way to moddb.com or maybe it will just be a long private project for myself.

Warscape is the game engine used for ETW, NTW, S2TW,R2TW

I don't know if people ever managed to create automated tools to reuse textures from ME2 mods to S2TW mods for example

Well I'm working on something, that is based on the books of LOTR. I made the Menu look, I just need to work on one faction for it.
