1.5 and 1.5 Gold US Version

I bought a new PC that has Windows 8.1. I was about to install MTW2 Kingdoms and noted I have two versions of 1.5 saved in my old downloads file for the game. One is 1.5 and one is 1.5 Gold. On this site I only see the 1.5 Gold for the US Version. I have the disk versions of both MTW2 and Kingdoms. Is there a difference between the 1.5 and 1.5 Gold I need to be aware of?

There is but I never really tried to figure it out.

If you have the old Medieval2 and Kingdoms realeases, use the non-Gold patch.
If you invested in the Gold version of the game, use the Gold patch.

I have my patch burnt to a cd. It has saved me a couple of installs already.
