Michelle Obama's Crusade on Fat Americans

As some people know, the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has made it her goal to decrease Obesity in the United States by doing.....what exactly?

She has decreased the amount of food in my Highschool lunch by about half, yet the price remains the same. People have to order two lunches so they don't feel hungry a few hours later.

She also wrote a book for kids that talks about her garden...which really doesn't encourage kids to eat healthily it just brags about her garden.

Obesity hasn't declined in adolescents/teens since these effects took place, so what's the point? By taking away food during lunch, kids just eat more after school. Not to mention the ludicrious amount of money being spent by our oh so competent Government to push this "healthy" message out.

Hey Government guys, want to get rid of obesity? Put a massive tax on fast food just like the tax on tobacco. It does the same thing as tobacco, it kills you slowly over time.

Sometimes I just wonder why we even bother trying to battle obesity when people aren't willing to take the first real steps to stop it...they just pretend to care.

Lets face facts, there are too many obese people in the USA, atleast someones trying something, we can't surgar-coat the solution, because they'll probably eat that too.

Trying by spending all of our money on something that won't work? Alright then, give me 20 bucks so I can throw it at strippers to help the homeless please.

All of our money? I don't think you're aware of how much money we have.

We've spent about $400 million on Let's Move out of a total federal expenditures of about $3.6 trillion. This is approximately one ten-thousandth of our money.

I'm well aware of how much money we spend, there's a reason that we have 17 trillion dollars to pay back to various countries.

To start cutting that back, we need to get rid of small programs that are inefficient and don't serve the purpose they were intended to, such as Michelle's current system. There are many little projects that the Government funds and there are many which we don't need.

You do realize how many American children are obese? I mean it one thing to out to seed when you are 50, but being obese as kid is rescepee for a life long list of problems and real difficulty trying to get in shape later in life.

Also most schools in the program server predominately populations that qualify for free or reduced meals.

Also more their is an amazing invention called a brown bag - If you you are buying lunch and don't like it you can always bring your own...

Nothing is a golden bullet and you hardly see health results anyway in a couple years. They well eat more at home but serving piss poor fast/prepossessed food at school is not really a decent solution - school lunches should be better. I do agree the way the calorie limits worked out is/was a problem. I guess I would prefer to see funding such that even full price kids can get free or reduced seconds would be a better option for the price of better quality and more fruits vegetables and not just some cheap Sysco boiled hamburger.

Not a bad ideal but difficult to enforce I think what would be the definition and basis?

Well it does cost a lot to the society overall

Personally I would say maybe a little less teaching to tests and little more recess would help. Having moved from a school where my kids got 4 recess periods and daily PE to one where their is only 3 day PE and 1 recess the obesity rate is notably different and not in a good way.

Well altering the program basics in not exactly spending new money - the Feds were already supporting the school lunch and breakfast program

Your first quote is invalid, as it shows two counties in the entire country.

Some states are declining but others are raising, it tends to fluctuate like that.

Please link me to where you got that so I can see the year it was made.

I'm thinking of writing them a letter for not including so many states that also need to be evaluated.

Either way, there's still gonna be a lot of obese people with these policies. It's not really worth the money.

I think the trend represents our current society of "fat shaming" which encourages large people to slim down, not the money we're giving good ol' Michelle for this failed project.

I haven't been in American public school since the late 90s, but I remember that stuff wasn't really good for you to begin with. What do they serve now? As was said earlier, bring your own lunch. They got these things called grocery stores.
