Icon9 1.5 Patch causeing Disc issues

Hi there. I purchased a retail copy of Medieval 2 Gold Edition. I am in New Zealand and I am running windows 7. I downloaded the US version of the 1.5 patch, extracted it and ran the setup.exe. When I tried to run the game it asked me to insert the Kingdoms disc, when I insert the disc (either of them) and press retry, it still won't start the game and the box returns telling me to I have the wrong disc. I've completely uninstalled Med 2 and tried the UK patch with the same results. Can anyone help me please? I don't know what to do.
    Thanks in Advance.

Are you logged in as Administrator?
Do you have the UAC disabled and leave it disabled?
Have you taken ownership/control of C: drive?
Have you installed the game anyplace but Program Files or Program Files (x86)?

I am admin, UAC (user account control) has been scrolled right down to "never notify". I have not been able to take control of the whole of C: drive but I do have ownership of Users and the Sega folder. Game is installed in the default place.

I can play fine until I install the patch. Do you know which one I need or how I can find out?

    After I install the patch and try to play any kingdoms campaigns this window appears even when the correct disc is in;

    Wrong disc inserted.
Please insert the original "Kingdoms" CD/DVD.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=wrongdisc for further, more detailed information.

It's usually the wrong patch. It is very specific.

Is the game Gold, non-Gold, Amazon digital, Direct2Drive/Gamefly digital?

Disc version, what language does it say on the box itself?

It's gold, English, retail (hard copy) bought. English on the box. Small writing at the bottom back of box states that it was distributed by Five Star Games, Australia.

Same problem here. So we don't know any solution, don't we?

    Assuming UK,

Patch 1.5 UK GOLD version mirrors:
    FilePlanet: http://www.fileplanet.com/185629/180...-UK-Patch-v1.5
    Strategy Informer: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/m...tch/23149.html
    Gamershell: http://www.gamershell.com/download_24606.shtml
    WorthPlaying: http://www.worthdownloading.com/down...=2528&id=14612

There is still the EU Gold patch, too.

New Zealand and Australia seem to both get copies at random for English in UK, US and EU for some reason. You may end up installing/uninstall/reinstalling until you get the right match.

I've tried a UK, US and EU patches from here http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/p...oms/patch.html and none of them seem to work. I'm trying the Gamershell UK one. If it doesn't work are there any others I should try. I bought the game very recently.

I had good luck with Gameshell patch. I think strategy Informer was a bad patch for me, too.

Nope, I've tried the EU, US and UK gold patches to no avail.

Since you did not post your dxdiag, I don't know what else you have installed and it may not tell me anyway. Knowing a little about SecuROM and crossing its path myself, why not click on their link, take their idiot test, and request a kingdoms.exe that actually works?

I've tried - it doesn't work. Excuse my ignorance, but what is dxding and how do I get it?

    Dxdiag is https://na.wargaming.net/support/Kno...-do-i-send-one one explanation.

I think your problem lies elsewhere in Windows' permissions. I have no problem with the old disc setup. I have not bought the Gold Edition but you are far from the first to report this problem. Short of searching every gaming site and computer hardware site trying solutions that may not even be related, searching Windows' Knowledge Base hoping for a nugget that might work, and generally learning more about your computer than you want to, you're about out of options.

There are only two things in short term that may work. A format of your harddrive and a fresh reinstall and patch of Windows or buy a copy from Steam. Me being stubborn, I'd reinstall Windows but I don't recommend it just for one game. It has its own faults and traps.

Is there a way to check which version of Medieval 2 Gold I have? I ordered in the US, but they sent me one with Pegi info and UK markings. Yet, the UK gold patch just kills my Kingdoms add ons. I have followed all the steps given on the forums, as I have been trying to solve this problem for over a month now. I did previously have an other copy of Medieval 2 installed on my computer, but bought a new copy after losing the disks. Would that affect things?

Right-click kingdoms.exe, click properties, and click the Details tab.

The language on mine says "English (United Kingdom)" And I'm in the US, so the change has to be in the pack files being different. How the installer and the .exe knows knows the difference I don't have a clue.

Thanks. I checked and it is the same. "English (United Kingdom)" Now the base version of gold works, but when I go to 1.5 it does that whole wrong disc inserted nonsense. Should I just look for different versions of the 1.5 UK Gold patch?

In his case, it could be his computer. since he did not reply with his dxdiag, I am not going to guess.
