    Default Bug report: Armory

    The armory states that it upgrades weapons (missile, crude, melee are the ones I remember off the top of my head) by 2 (+2). However, it doesn't seem to do this. I made this conclusion by comparing the stats between units recruit able in cities without the armory and those with the armory.

    I apologize if this issue was already discussed, nothing came up in the search.

    First, are you talking about the Armorer building, because that gives +2 (Armory gives +3). Second, did the units have any colored sword or shield icons on lower-left of their unit card?

    The way the Med2 works, not every unit gets whatever bonus it says in the building description. So if it says +2 to weapon, armor, etc., it does not mean that every unit recruited there gets +2 to their armor rating or can be upgraded by that building. A unit will only get an armor bonus IF their armor can be upgraded to whatever level that specific building can upgrade. Different armor levels are associated with different smith buildings; check unit and building descriptions for what armors are associated with them.

    An example of how Med2 handles armor levels and upgrades:

    - A Light Infantry Unit starts with Armor level 3, and can have their Armor upgraded to Levels 5 and 6.
    - Blacksmith upgrades Level 4 and 5 Armor, Armorer upgrades Level 6 and 7 Armor, and Heavy Armorer upgrades level 8 Armor
    - That Light Infantry unit will get be able to upgrade their armor at both Blacksmith and Armorer, gaining +1 each time (for a total of +2)
    - That Light Infantry unit will not be able to upgrade, and new Light Infantry units recruited will not get, any Armor bonus from the Heavy Armorer building


    I just did a test and everything works correctly. I had two identical Light units, and the Armorer building, but only upgraded one unit. The upgraded unit received +1 to their weapon (bronze sword) and +2 to their armor (silver shield), with their stats comparatively higher than the unit that was not upgraded.

    I am referring to the final level of forge (the one that is only available in certain cities), which seems to upgrade armor and weapons. My comment is in reference to the fact that the weapons don't seem to be upgraded as much as they should be or am I misinterpreting the +2 to missile to mean it would give +2 damage to ranged attacks when it really means something else (or is it possible that only crossbows benefit from this?).

    That would be the Armory building, but it gives +3. And unfortunately, it is hardcoded by the Med2 engine that you can not upgrade ranged attacks. The upgrade that ranged units (archers/x-bowmen) receive is a bonus to their melee attack, but since they have a ranged weapon as their primary weapon, they have to have a different upgrade entry than melee units (swordsmen/spearmen). I know it's stupid, but I didn't write the code for the Med2 engine, so us modders and players just have to deal with it

    I'm not positive, but it seems like ranged units are only receiving +1 (bronze) to their melee attack and the +2 (silver) or +3 (gold) is not applied? That might be hardcoded as well. I will have to check on that.
