Default How to change settings question and scripts

Hello everyone! Despite being a Rome Total War player since launch day back in late September 2004, this is the first time that I have been (what I believe anyways) able to successfully install this mod.

I am currently playing the 2.5 version for this mod on STEAM and was wondering if I can change settings such as screen resolution and unit size in the in game options menu or ONLY through the launcher. Also is there a unit size larger than HUGE?

In the instruction for installing this mod it says to activate scripts by clicking on a settlement and then clicking on the adviser that pops up. When I do this the adviser does not appear. Interestingly though as soon as I load a new campaign (I am playing as Parthia) an adviser appears for a split second and then disappears. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you friends!

Erm... you can probably change it all through both. I changed everything through the game, though the launcher (I think) manually changes settings and has far, far more options that what the game offers. Huge is the largest, and I'm fairly sure you can't add any more than what they have in RSII. Not sure many computers could handle it either.

You did start a new game, right, when you installed it? For me the adviser appears when you open a settlement window, though without any text. You click that, and it disappears. You can check if it's worked by looking at your treasury. It adds +1 when it activates.

I would definitely suggest updating the files to v2.6!

Thereafter, however, I would recommend lowering rather than trying to increase settings as you are then more likely to have a better experience. It doesn't matter how good your PC is at modern games - RTW isn't a modern game.

Personally I also therefore much prefer 'Large' settings for troops - and think of RTW as a 'retro-game' - and the battles as PC-renditions of table-top games where each sprite is a figure and represents more than one man (1:10/12 is about right). 'Huge' can restrict your tactical movement a fair bit, especially in settlements too.

Note: you can indeed change all settings on the fly during game by modifying the Preferences.txt file, even if you don't just do it directly - but do it carefully and remember to always 'Delete Maps' after any text file changes. Keep back-ups.
"RTW/RS VH campaign difficulty is bugged out (CA bug that never got fixed) and thus easier than Hard so play on that instead" - apple

RSII 2.5/2.6 Tester and pesky irritant to the Team. Mucho praise for long suffering dvk'.

Can someone please explain why "maps" needs to be deleted everytime? How does this affect the game?

I know some people can and like to play on Huge settings, but I'm with ur-Lord Tedric...the best setting for battle mechanics and especially navigating in cities is Large.

Some changes to files and settings can be done during a campaign and 'on-the-fly', so to speak. But because the game creates a 'world state' file called 'map.rwm' when your campaign starts, many changes won't be recognized until you delete that file and force the game to recreate it.
