Default How to FIX/EDIT auto-resolve system

How to fix/edit auto-resolve system. It's so rubbish.

I'm attacking. 1456 vs 1850. all units at full strength. My army is much better, better trained with experience. No reinforce - night fight.

    my force:
    4 x principes
    1 x triarii
    2 x equites
    9 x hastati
    2 x velties
    1 x archer

    Enemy:
    12 x Afr_Levy_Spear
    3 x Afr_Javelinmen
    4 x Afr_Tribal_Slingers

Now look at the strength bar. On auto resolve I have no change to win. Only loose with huge losses or less soldiers losses. What is wrong with this crap autoresolve?

    HOW TO FIX IT ???
    Pls help me.

I've done a personal auto-resolve mod that gives city defenders a bigger boost and lowers the cavalry penalties against spears, but that's about all I could do. I think auto-resolve mostly relies on numbers and doesn't take quality into consideration at all as far as I can tell, so there's no way I could mod it. At least not with the tools available now.

I think it also gives a bonus for having missile superiority, and since your melee infantry numbers are about the same I see why the auto resolve is what it is, but again, I don't know how to fix that or if it's even possible.

    Thx.
But I do not understand how to make more changes.
Could you explain me how your changes work and how to mod this tables of autoresolve?

Could you show me your mod ?

    EDIT.
I still testing. After two days of testing I discover something. This is my results:

The same battle - without reinforce

    Aggressive - minimal win

    Normal
    - Pyrrhic victory

Defencive - decent defeat (they got more missile unit)

I've still testing this changes. If there is anybody who want test it too, give me a PM

Oh, I just noticed your last post has been updated. Could you show me what you've changed? Did you find a way to make troop quality matter?

-removed all cavalry penalties against spears so hopefully cav units get destroyed less. The vanilla auto-resolve assumes that if cav units and spears are on opposite armies, the cav attacks the spears. I think we can assume that cav would avoid spears.

-added rather large bonuses to defenders of walled settlements because I found that auto-resolve often gave a better result in those situations than I could manually manage. (I also wanted the cai to be swapping territories less)

    -lowered the missile bonus.

I'm also considering adding a cav bonus against missiles, but I want to think about it and see how these changes work through play testing first.

It works for me... weird. I've included it as an attachment, does that one work?

I went and looked at the files again and increased penalty for early retreat and buff for no retreat. Is that what you changed? Seems like the only quality related modifier there, unless I'm missing something.

    Oh sorry, okay.
campaign_autoresolver_situation_mod_groups tells autoresolve when to give bonuses and to who. For example, I added a bonus called "moderate_kps_additive_defensive_bonus" to "defender_target" in all major settlement battles (there are separate entries for minor settlements).

campaign_autoresolver_situation_mod_groups lets you create a new level of bonus if you don't want to use any of the existing ones. I created a new one because in vanilla the same bonus was given in ambush, bridge, and walled city defense battles. I wanted to leave the bonus for bridge crossings and ambushes alone so I created a new bonus to use only in settlement defense.

campaign_autoresolver_mod_group_modifier_values_tables sets the levels of the bonuses. Not exactly sure how these work statistically, but just look at the numbers and adjust based on what you see there. Be sure you're aware of what situation these bonuses are given however, as that isn't obvious from this table alone.
