    Default AI expansion

May have missed something so can someone help me out.

One thing that I wasn't too keen on in RTW (or more precisely mostly RTR) was that the AI would expand aggressivly and cultures would be wiped out before I had a chance to do so myself. This happened especially if you did not want to be roman. This makes me sad.

Now, the developers have said that big empires are hard to manage so does this mean there is less chance of small states being wiped out?

    I hope so.

I hope so too, for example Scotland and Portugal and the Italian city states are kind of small, and I don't want them to disappear so quickly. That isn't really medieval style to conquer the whole world. Smaller wars and crusades fit here perfectly.
I also wish that AI would respect alliance and peace. In Rome, if you had another faction in your neighbor, you had to start preparing for war. So really, AI aggressiveness should have been lowered a lot.Well, if empires are now harder to maintain, it should mean that one or three factions won't just share the world.
Although it wouldn't take much effort from the English to beat Scotland, since they've got only 1 province (?) Wiping out a faction is just too easy, just take settlements and it's done... I think it wasn't so easy in real life.

I have read the AI when it does attack, may use ships, and will attack your homelands more. So will this apply to the way the AI fights the AI also, or just against the Human?
It's just that AI attacks like this, could take turf quicker, and their will be no save/load bug to slow down conquest. Meaning even before Empires get large could they wipeout small factions early?

So what would be decent IMO is an AI, which is aggressive in war(when at war), but respects treaties some of the time at least, and isn't bizzare/thoughtless in it's actions.

One of the problems with RTW was that the goal was to conquer the world, or a set number of provinces. I'd much rather have few, grand battles than many, unimportant ones. Taking over a province, or losing one, shouldn't be so easy. If factions would re-emerge in a sensible manner, we would also be able to keep the cultures that might otherwise be lost. I think the AI should act accordingly to this.

You should get into RTR 7.0 when it comes out their gonna have scripted battles for important things on the campaign map (such as macedonians retaking macedonia from galatians)

well, maybe if there was a diplomatic victory that would work, but the thing is, this is total war, and with the objectives to conquer 45 provinces, if the AI was not so aggressive, that would lower their chances to win the game. If the AI isn't trying to win, then what are they doing?

In MTW they had the glorious achievements to reach victory, you didn't need to conquer evrything, and I liked it, it was a lot of fun.

Being (un-)entertaining enemies. In most games, the enemy is not there so they can win, but to be a challenge. RTW failed here
