i think we should be able to split formations. its kinda stupid to use an entire cav unit to chase down 10 routing archers while another 10 are routing the opposite side!. as of now we have to choose between one of those 2 to attack! by the time we kill of one routing unit the other would have escaped! we should be able to split the units into 2 or 4 sub units, we can have a single "split unit" and "merge unit" button for that action. i thinks thats more realistic!cos thats what happens in real life

but isnt it dumb to have all 60 horsemen chase after only 3 or 4 routing men while some more are routing on the other side? i mean..its unrealistic! no way it would have happaned that was in real world! the knights would have split up!

go after the other ones instead of those 3 or 4 men. if you got the other units, those 3 or 4 men will route on the campaign map anyway so it's not necessary to split a unit

And how would you controll each half of the unit? Would you make another unit card down the bottem for each half of the unit. But what if your army already had 20 units and there was no more room for unit cards? Then where dose it go??

the cards might be split into two, the top half representing one section while the bottom the other, hence u dont need any new cards

Also I don't really see the point of running down those three archers... I voted yes by mistake!

+ what would happen to the morale of the unit +++ all sorts of issues that would turn up and delay the game to mid 07.

they can have it as a patch after the game is released

well the "archers" were an example i used
lets say that u have heavy cav(60) and foot knights (10) and the enemy has 2 routing units ; light cav(30) and archers (60) now if u chase the light cav with ur cav, the archers would rally and hit the slow moving foot knights, but if u go after the archers then the foot knights ight be hit with the light cav wich might have rallied. so unless u split the cav, its not gonna make any sense!!

its very common for cav formations to split(probably under the command of the XO(second in commnad) and act as a independant mini formation
warefare is a ever changing thing, and those who dont adopt to battlefield situations dont survive long.

If you haven't routed there entire army whats the point on sending troops to kill routing people when you could be using them in the battle?

If most of there army is routing and they have one unit left you don't need every single unit going after that unit, just send a group of cavalry off to kill the routers.

In MTW you could get units to do that. Quite incredible programming. Some would already be committed to their attack and screw the general, but half the unit would turn and do what they were told. If you clicked back and forth enough you could get a unit to split for a while. Disciplined units, appropriately, followed orders perfectly and promptly.

The unit might get a little muddled some times, but it would never be as organised as you explained it. Bedsides, individuals would remain in combat when the unit was ordered away in Rome too IIRC.

If the Ai can handle it then it should be included. If the AI won't use it then it shouldn't be included.
