    Default "Hidden" Command Rating

In M:TW, It was possible for a general to have command ratings greater than 9 when in battle due to virtues like excellent attacker, skilled outnumbered attacker, etc... I remember one battle I had units with valor in the 16-18 range because of this.

Is this possible in R:TW? Or is it capped at 10?

The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him,

But because he loves what is behind him.

    Hi and welcome unfortunate crow

In RTW you can have generals with up to 10*. If they have any more than this it does not display.

Whether a 12* general (displayed as 10*) is any better...now that I dont know. Does anyone ?

So what does Command Rating Effect in this game anyways? Does it only effect Morale? Or does it give extra attack/defense per two levels to all the army's units like in M:TW?

I think it's just for a morale boost in battle. Although, when auto-resolving battles, it has a huge effect to the outcome.
Don't think it affects anything else? :hmmm:

Well I guess I could test this, but I would need to build up a 10-star general, and another general with 10 stars that gets more when he attacks. Then recruit a unit of peasants and send them headlong into the enemy ten times or so and see if it takes any longer for them to route.

edit: Suppose I could auto-battle with the peasants too and see if the outcomes are any different.

I believe it strongly effects morale and has a secondary effect on attack/defense skills of all units under the general's command. Lord knows I see the difference between no general, a 3-star general, a 6-star general, and a 10-star general. 10-star generals can produce miraculous results from very mediocre troops.

higher star values means larger range of the general's aura, which "inspires troops". and it also helps to fight automatic battles and they can win even when the odds are 1-3(i only fight hard/important battles myself, otherwise its a major waste of time). the morale boost is separte i think, since there are other traits which can boost the morale of soldiers such as "brave" or "couragerous". and i guess it helps alot, since most units have an average of 7 morale.

edit: auto resolve battle mostly goes on the calculation of melee stats, making ranged units quite useless for auto-battle. and if i have a full melee army in campaign with a 10star general, i can win any battle really. and another note, if the enemy general have a higher star, i belive he is harder/smarter in the actual battle. since ive noticed big differences in ai behaviour between 0 star captains to 5 star family members.

I'm still fairly sure command affects morale, but there are obviously other abilities which affect morale independently of command, like being brave, cowardly, insane, etc.

Well I did a little test. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do this over an over again for more balanced results...maybe some other time.

I first scripted in two generals. One with goodcommander 5 and goodattacker 5, the other with almost every command-booster in the book.

I made them julii and gave them each a single peasant unit in their army. I sent the first general up against Segesta and assaulted the village. The peasants marched headlong into the light infantry garrison, and fought until they routed at about 60-70% casualties. During this time, I kept the general's unit near behind the peasant unit, but out of combat.

I reloaded after this, and marched the second general up to do the same thing. With all the additional traits I had given him, he should technically have a command rating well above 10, but only 10 stars were shown of course. His peasants fought until about 90% casualties.

This bears more testing, but I don't know when I will be able to do it.
