Default "Select on option from the list" only on one mod

I have this really strange problem only with RTRPE v2.0, where I can't start the imperial campaign, nor can I start custom battles. However, I can load a savegame and I can play battles in it. Also, I can play any other mod (I've tested with XC and DTW) without any problems at all.

What is causing this? I have it installed in my RTW Alex.exe on steam. I've validated the core files, so that can't be causing the issue (I had modded a few files to try out the Alexander campaign, but it shouldn't have any conflicts with a mod. It doesn't with DTW or XC, at least). I have been able to play RTRPE before, but that was before installing XC and making the changes for the base, vanilla game. After I did these two things the problem appeared.

Are there any solutions to this issue aside of checking for the integrity of the core files of the vanilla game and of the mod? Because it would seem as if that is not the problem.

    Thanks in advance

RTRPE 2.0 did not in anyway edit a single letter/line of vanilla ALX data or RTW/BI data. Usually "Select on option from the list" happened if you main game not fully patched like running a mod for BI 1.6 when you only have BI 1.4 but it should be if it's Steam version.

Can you post screenshot of the folder where you installed ? Did you run with the correct command in launch option ?

    3. Steam Version, install RTRPE v2.0 to
    a. 64bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander
    b. 32bit: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Alexander
To run with Steam right-click on Rome: Total War-Alexander in Steam Library
    - select Properties
    - select SET LAUNCH OPTIONS...
    - enter -mod:rtrpe -show_err -noalexander
*show_err is not actually needed because all known error that make the game ctd has been fixed.

Did XC in anyway change the vanilla files ?

Yeah, that's what makes this very very strange. It only happens with RTRPE, and before I was able to play other mods (as well as vanilla) without any issues on any of the .exe's. It started happening right after downloading and installing a small mod for Alexander vanilla (Nice&Slow) and XC (the only change it does to vanilla is remove the red line in battles. But as I said, it only affects RTRPE, I've been able to succesfully start battles and campaigns in vanilla, XC and DTW. That's why I wanted to ask if there was any other solution rather than trying to install vanilla and RTRPE again (which I've done partially, I only verified files on Steam for AlexTW, my connection is kind of bad, so I've been a bit reluctant to download it again).

I guess if there is no other solution, I'll just try to do a clean install of everything. Thanks for the help for clearing out my doubts on what I should do.

We had that thing happening for this other mod, MOS for Third Age TW. The thing is, in this case, that the MOS mod was made using different text format Editor, in this case, Notepad++ was used, and, changes made by some other text Editor like Notepad or Word etc.., lead to this message happening to you.

I do not know what Text Editor did you use for making your edits in files, but, it won`t do you any harm if you try to use Notepad++.

Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

Hmm, thanks for the suggestion, it's a valid possibility. I'm pretty sure that I did all my changes with Notepad++, but it could be that with the Alex Nice&Slow mod something might have gotten messed up (it doesn't have an .exe installer, I just had to place the files in the respective folders). I'll have to re-download vanilla Alex once again, hopefully that does the trick.

Once you have a clean download make sure you copied the vanilla files somewhere first before modding it, especially those that directly edit or overwrite vanilla files, even a single line. Just to be safe in case something wrong somewhere.

One other thing, are you sure you download RTRPE 2.0 and not RTRPE 1.9 ? RTRPE 1.9 can't be installed to ALX folder.

I feel, really, really stupid. It was missing the "-noalexander" part in the command line. I was pretty sure it made no difference to have it on, I remember explicitly trying to see what difference it made to have it on or off in XC, and having seen no noticeable difference (apparently, I must have loaded a campaign, which made me not notice the difference).

Just to learn something out of this, and make this thread not completely pointless, what does the "-noalexander" command line do, exactly? It's already the third time I google it (even without the minus, so that google doesn't look for pages that don't have the word) and I haven't found a single guide that explains its purpose. It's there to avoid the game trying to read the files from the "alexander" folder in the root RTW directory?
