I've attacked lillybaem with it having a major settlement and the map wasn't the brundisium map... weird. I'll invade a few of the settlements I made major and see what they look like. I was wondering how the game knew which map to use considering all I've done is tell it to use a major city map.

edit: There's a "capital" building slot along with major and minor, I think. You're not using that are you?

Aw dammit. Building_set_to_building_junctions, I bet thats it lol.

    EDIT

Nevermind, I somehow seem to have the rome map in more than just Italia. Just got it with the island off the roman coast that starts under Etruscan control .

    EDIT2

I just don't know. It's probably got something to do with me using custom structures if it's fine for you. The only difference I can find, other than the names, shouldn't be making a difference.

Side note: Ships deploy without a CTD in a land only map, only problem is they're under the map

Small update, gave neapolis (minor south of Rome) the standard major settlement, and it still had a busted battlemap (it's a port settlement, but its a land battle on the unique rome map), so doesn't exactly work either

hmmm. that sucks. try lillybaem and see if it uses the brundisium map, because mine didn't. The only cities I really thought NEEDED walls were lillybeum and syracuse and they both come up as port settlements, which is good. Now that I think about it syracuse might have had the greek version of the brundisium settlement, but lillybaeum definitley didn't.

I don't even know where it's pulling the maps from after getting the Rome map in the island province. It's not culture/faction related (the southern Roman starting settlement gets a port, neapolis gets Rome map).

As it stands, you're going to have to check each settlement you change individually to make sure that ports are ports, and less critically, land settlements are land settlements. It might even change with culture which would screw with that even further.

I just assaulted Gadira, which is a minor port with a landlocked major province capital and it was a port... maybe it's just in the provinces with unique maps, like Athens, Carthage, Rome and.... I think that's it. Alexandria too, I think.

But that still doesn't make sense for getting the rome map in corsica. hmm.

OKay, I assaulted pergamon and it has a port even though it shouldn't. Ephesus is it's capital, which is a port.

Lilybaem and syracuse are loading the carthage map. I think it's just loading the first map it comes to under Roman city, or Hellenistic city, because all the capital maps are at the top of the list in tiles4.pack. I've been looking in the startpos and in data2 for anything which looks like it's controlling which map to load. Let me know if you see anything like that.

Can a province have 2 'major' regions ? For example in the current CG map Syracuse is minor and Brundisium is major. Can I make them both major ? It does not matter on the campaign map. Only for the battle map.

Yes. Walls are determined entirely by the building placed in the main settlement slot (really, a single effect_junction that provides walls). However, the game assigns cities somewhat randomly. Syracuse will have Carthage's battlemap.

Thanks. I wonder if it works using the assembly kit and give major settlement building in the startpos_settlements

Yes, it would. As long as you place the right building in there, you will get a walled settlement. You could even technically just modify the building_effects_junctions table to add the wall bonus, but the game won't display the right or appropriate maps.

Now, you may end up with crazy things like ports on land settlements and such, so you need to be careful. I've also heard of people getting different cities at different times, though my tests haven't had that result. They have been consistent even after conquest.

I'm just looking into adding some settlements like Rhodes, Jerusalem and Syracuse but they still maintain their 'minor' settlement status, except having them walls on battle map.

All three of those you mentioned would work. Jerusalem gets a generic eastern settlement map, Rhodes a generic Hellenic port, and Syracuse gets Carthage's battle map.

On the major/minor split - the only real difference is the appearance on the campaign map, the main settlement line, and building slots. Two of those three things couldn't be changed regardless.

That post gives a full list of settlements and what battle maps you will (or at least should) get with the addition of walls.
