The old unspecified error
I could have sworn this was already mentioned, but couldn't find it anywhere.
The problem: Whenever I try to run M2TW or any mod, (so far tried TATW, Westeros, and the Kingdoms mods) the program seems to start then tells me, "medieval 2 has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit."
Other info: Just transferred from my other pc where I had had it installed for 2+ years. Original install of M2TW failed, as did original install for all kingdoms. Reran installer twice, and all installed. Had to reinstall Brittania, Americas, and Teutonic before 1.5 patch would take, but it worked eventually.
Any help appreciated, if you need more information, just tell me

Can you start a campaign in vanilla?
What version of Windows?
What is the full path of the game?

Re: The old unspecified error
No, not even vanilla works. It is a disk install, following path C:/Program Files(x86)/Sega/medieval II Total War, running off Windows 7

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...iagnostic-tool
Click the "Save all info" button on the bottom of the box that comes up, save it to your desktop, and attach the file to your next post. Or copy/paste which is easier for you.

Re: The old unspecified error
Outside of the game not liking your present setup the way it is, your computer is way better than mine.
Are you logged in as Administrator?
Have you disabled the UAC, yet?
Have you take ownership/control of C: drive, yet?
90% of all problems with this game and Windows, Vista and newer, is the security layer(s) Microsoft added because of getting sued every five minutes for the lack of any.
That said, the steps above are almost a necessity along with installing the game outside default in a folder like C:\Games.
This game is too old for the new BS.

Re: The old unspecified error
I am logged in as an admin, and I don't know about UAC or whether I have control of the C drive

Re: The old unspecified error
For some reason, I can't follow the first link, it says I don't have permission, and knows I'm logged in...
Edit: that's still kind of weird that I can't view the thread, but taking ownership of C: worked perfectly. Sorry for all of the questions, I'm still pretty useless on this new computer.

Re: The old unspecified error
Let's see if we can do it his way.
Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > pull the lever all the way to the bottom > click okay.
