Default Going bump in the night

It was late at night when Aerys was arrested, with both Raymar's and the Queen's testimony, though Raymar knew nothing of that yet. He'd been ordered to seize Aerys' troops before they learned of their Prince's fate.

Sending a rider down into the City, he summoned up 2,000 Outer Guard to the Red Keep. They took around an hour to arrive, but Raymar had time on his hands: Aerys' troops were all asleep, Aerys having refused to release any to aid the Inner Guard on night watch duties. Oh well, it played to Raymar's favour now.

Eventually, the reinforcements arrived. Raymar stood in the courtyard behind the main gate with the assembled Captains, Inner and Outer Guard. He'd acquired a map detailing the Red Keep's structural layout.

"Aerys' men are all billeted in these outbuildings here," said Raymar, pointing to a knot of buildings that occupied space between the Red Keep's outer wall and the castle itself, "The Outer Guard shall seal them off and await my command. The Inner Guard will secure here," said Raymar, pointing to the armouries, "to ensure the weapons remain in our hands. Once we know this to be the case, the Outer Guard shall storm the barracks and detain Aerys' troops. The first through fourth Inner Guard companies will assist."

The Captains nodded in agreement and broke up to their duties.

    Mods:

    - All Aerys' men are asleep. None are on night watch duty at all, as Aerys completely ignored Raymar's request for night watch manpower in the Gate thread.
    - Raymar's forces are securing the armouries and the barracks simultaneously.
    - Raymar has 1500 Guardians of Casterly Rock (heavy inf, +3) and 2000 Goldcloaks (light inf). He also has +3 battles.
    - Naturally, he has a major element of surprise: none of Aerys' men are awake, they are leaderless, and when the commotion starts will be largely unarmed and unarmoured: they're not in a field camp, they're garrisoned within proper accommodations and King's Landing has no immediate threats.
    - Raymar aims to detain them unharmed. He will seek their leaders to discuss a suitable surrender. The King has ordered Raymar to offer them money in exchange for disarming.

Gonna bump this: the RP in the Red Keep is becoming dependent on how successful, or otherwise, Raymar's efforts are here.

    Going to improvise here.

Do the Outer Guard manage to sneak up on Aerys' men? 15/20 chance.
Rolled: 13, yes. The Outer Guard manage to catch Aerys' soldiers by surprise.
Do Aerys' men surrender immediately? 16/20 chance since they have no weapons and have spears against their necks.
Rolled: 20. The Prince's men are bold, that much is sure, and try to throw back the Goldcloaks. Initial casualties on Aerys' side will be D20*2,5%.
    Rolled: 2, 5% casualties.
The successful counterattack gives Aerys' men hope, and as such they try to get some of the Goldcloaks' arms.

    1-5/20: No arms for Aerys
    6-10/20: 100 men get arms
    11-15/20: 200 men get arms
    16-20/20: 300 men get arms
Rolled: 10, 100 men manage to grab hold of a Goldcloak spear.

The 100 men fight 1900 Goldcloaks, with a -5 modifier for being leaderless and surprised.
The professionals' luck has run out apparently: They only manage to kill 6 Goldcloaks while being dealt 50 casualties.

    Surrender? 1-16/20 yes.
16, yes. Aerys' men surrender to the Goldcloaks after killing 106 of them. They have lost 5%+50 men themselves.

A short battle had erupted in the sleeping quarters of Aerys' forces when the Outer Guard moved in. A bumbling Lieutenant, who would likely not be one for much longer, forgot one of the barrack blocks had a second level to it. As a result, a band of Aerys men were awoken without immediate threat, and organised a counter-attack, managing to briefly overwhelm the Goldcloaks and push them out of that barrack block.

Seeing the danger of a stand-off developing, Ser Gareth himself lead the renewed assault, deploying ladders against the windows and second floor. After a brief but intense battle that raged throughout the barrack building, Ser Garath's forces achieved local superiority and quickly subdued the resisting forces. Around a hundred of Raymar's men lay dead in the barrack building, which was littered with around twice as many dead of Aerys' men.

Rounding them all up within one of the many courtyards in the Red Keep, Raymar addressed them. They were surrounded by a phalanx of the Outer Guard, while Raymar stood on one of the courtyard's cloister walls, standing a waist above everyone else in the area, behind a three-rank deep platoon of the Inner Guard.

"Your Prince has been found guilty of High Treason!" he shouted, "Your contracts to him are forfeit and he is imprisoned! The King, in his great mercy, offers each of you a bounty to renounce your oaths to the traitor and leave peacefully!"

He surveyed the mass of men: many had minor wounds, ranging from cuts and bruises to black eyes, from the brawls that broke out when the Outer Guard moved in.
