    Default Power supply help...

I'm building a new PC, specs so far are-
    7950GT
    1GB geil
    AMD x2 4400+ windsor 2.2GHz
    seagate SATA 160Gb HDD
    Abit mobo (ddr2 800, AM2 skt etc.)

I just need the power supply. And this is one of the things im least educated on. Price needs to stay under $100, no higher.
And can someone recommend me a decent DVD-ROm/CD-ROM drive?

    Newegg.com is what im useing.

Get a maxtor hdd and only get a single core processor unless your running multiple applications as it will give you no extra gaming performance and will save you a lot of money. I reccomend at least a 450watt psu of fair quality, just make sure that it will be able to actualy deliver the power.

939 isn't on it's way out just yet and there are some good processors made for that socket. If you want to be future-proof though go for the AM2 and try a different website, have a look on froogle and you should find dozens of single-cores. Trust me, stay away from the X2's unless you have no respect of money or want to run multiple graphics programs or something. Indeed, there are many compatibility problems with x2's esspecialy RTW which lags like hell on these.

I've just seen a 3800 for less than £80 so you could get a lot cheaper.

    Oops, sorry

Yes, just look at the mobo to see if there is a separate 4 or 8 pin power connecter and make sure the power supply has an extra 4 or 8 pin power connecter.

    PC Hardware Guide (click me!)

It's stickied in this forum you know.

Oh yea, if I'm not too late, you should change the CPU to a Core 2 Duo E6400 or E6300, same price, but the performance differences is pretty big.

Right.... suuuree man. I have a X2 4800 (2.4 ghz) , one of the Socket 939 Dual cores. I can run Oblivion on high, RTW on highest with 10,000 + man battles with not much lag....

Every game i've played with Dual Core is fine. The problem is people dont update their drivers. Dual core is becoming the future, as Single-Core is fading away. Systems like OSX and Vista are going to use the Dual cores to full use.

THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH RTW AND DUAL CORE. If you believe this, then you either have a single core in your rig or you do not have your dual core configured right. Just because RTW wasnt made to take advantage of dual core technology, doesnt mean it doesnt work.

Something with 12v with 22 amps on the rail will be sufficient. But you do not add together the numbers. I will edit this post with a good PSU.

I just recently bought a hiper power low noise 530 watt psu for £50 that would be about $80 in the US i Reckon. Its durable powerful and so quiet its a dream. It is also a 20+4 pin so can work with a 20 pin or 24 pin motherboard. I highly recommend it.
