Need new VID CARD....

Alright everybody, I need suggestions on this. Cause I want to get a new vid card for this game, and I want it to run the game flawless. Well, what do you guys suggest???

Moved to the Basement, the tech area of TWC.

My suggestions would be to get a Geforce 7900GT or higher, or a Radeon X1900XT or higher, but remember, if you do not have enough RAm, or a good enough cpu that can restrict your performance as well.

7900GT and X1900XT get my recommendations too, but it's a bit difficult to suggest a vid card if I don't know a)You're processor b) RAM c) Motherboard (AGP or PCI-e?) d)Power supply.

There's also x1900GT, which is pretty affordable and powerful. But tell your specs first.

I may be getting a new computer for Xmas and I wont have loads to spend so I'm getting a 7300GT which apparently Is the best for budget, but If you have quite a bit to spend I'd agree with Spartacus and Lusted.

To run RTW flawlessly all you need is a 660GT, or X1600pro and above.
For MTW2 an X800GTO or 7600GT.
Anything else is overkill, but will be needed for future games.
Get the X1900XT if you want future proofing post MTW2.

I wish I could share your optimism, are you sure that a 7600GT will run MTW 2 flawlessly?(flawlessly to me is 10,000+ troops, night siege battles, flaming missiles/arrows, screen Res:1600x1200, full AA+AF settings and maxed out details on grass, buildings, troops etc, etc.

I have read the X1900XTX can't even run a new game like Oblivion flawlessly, because one part of the game brings on the dreaded staggering framerates.

No offense to you good sir, but I'll believe it when I see it, that my X1900XTX will play MTW 2 flawlessly, still I would prefer it if you are right, and my pessimisum being somewhat misguided, but when R.T.W's expansion BI came out the X800XT 256 DDR (a fast card at the time) couldn't play the night battles at all flawlessly!

The X1900XTX might be twice as fast as my old X800XT, but MTW 2 has twice the detail to cope with!

Oh, and about obvilion, obvlivion is a really graphically heavy game, I doubt MTW2 will be as heavy as that, and the X800 series could play it with at least medium settings.

For RTW my CPU was an AMD64 3500+@2.2GHz 500KB cache and could manage 11,500+ troops with no problems in day battles, but couldn't do the night scraps with half those troops, so I put it down to my X800XT.

My new CPU for MTW2 is an £80 AMD64 Opty 144 overclocked@2.8GHz 1MB cache with Artic Pro64 Cooler on a Nforce4 DFI Ultra D MoBo(hey if I had the dosh it would be a 6400 Core Duo CPU, but beggers can't be choosers) with Bullied(overclocked) Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX Ram.

Yes, its ok, meaning it should play MTW2 but not on high settings, probably not even on medium, any more info on your CPU though?

I would old off on buying a new video card as the P4 is ancient, yes its true. It also does not support the newer memory and the video card port will most likely be AGP and NOT PCI-E. Since AGP video cards are out of date to play newer games, I would recommend a new computer. Otherwise you will be gambling on the performance and I know you do not want to be disappointed.

I say you should be able to play it on medium levels and perhaps even high levels. The 6600 is a pretty darn good card.

nothing wrong with a P4... my P4 is fine! better than a celeron for sure... its on a PCI-E motherboard and sports 3.2ghertz...

i'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card too though, got a 6600 right now, and its ok... but it had trouble with spellforce II, and i fear for it when it comes to MIITW...
recommendations within the GeForce series?
also my current card uses a heatsink not a fan, which helps to make my PC oh so beautifully quiet... had a look on scan.co.uk (where all my current PC parts came from) and i couldn't see a 7600 or 7900 that didn't have a fan... bit puzzled by that lol
or i may just be blind

The 7950 GT XFX has a heatsink and the 7900 GTO is supposed to be ultraquiet.
