    Default Question about Debt

During my campaigns, I've never gone that far into debt - but I was wondering, just how far into to debt can you go before you lose?

Like, is there a debt limit you can hit then automatcially lose; or is it just you can't build / train anything so you'll eventually get trodden on anyway?

EDIT: If nobody knows, would you kindly just post the most you've ever been in debt by?

i dont think there is any limit actually... but if youre deep in debt youre gonna get beaten fast by any nation youre at war with since you cant resupply your troops or build any new ones... also your towns will start to revolt once they grow too large since you cant buy the "upgrades" to make them bigger...

When I started my first Greek campaign in PE with NM mode I was 15,000 in debt by the third round. Decided to start again and retire my elephants and build trading buildings with the initial money. Wasn't easy but by now I have recovered and make about 9,000 net per turn which isn't much given the high cost of building in MN

:tooth: If you play my Imperator II mod, you can go down until -100,000 unless you drive away the Epirotes from Italy which by that time you starting legions will be depleted and you can get back in the black maybe after 15-20 years of gameple ( x 4 turns of course ).

Ahhh, so the general concencus is that there is no limit on the debt you can get into!!!

Is there anyway of scripting unhappiness because of debt? This will simulate the populations' unhappiness because of the government not giving them the money it owes them...

You should, probably, be able to either write up a script or do some editing into the 4tpy script to check for debt... but you'd probably have to assign some sort of temporary trait (in the vein of Winter Campaign Season) that increases squalor and unhappiness, as I don't think you can just set a city (via script) to be x% unhappy.

However, generally speaking, if you're massively in debt the unhappiness caused by your cities growing can't be fixed with new buildings. Though, I've never managed to get -100K or anything so silly into debt to test if being that far indebt leads to serious unahppiness problems.

Scripting cannot influence happiness in a province. It can place a building that has a negative happiness bonus, but that doesn't make a city any less happy; instead, it simply nullifies any positive happiness bonuses that city might have through buildings.
