Default M2TW NET framework crash issue

Hello everyone, first of all I hope you are well, and let me thank you for your further answers and solution attemps. Excuse me if my english is not perfect, I'm working on it.

So here we go (again), I'll try to be as precise as possible. If someone can give me a way to record it I'll be able to youtube it and maybe gain some time.
I have this pop up message when I start M2TW(from steam or the game folder):

    "Microsoft .NET Framework

An unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately.

Input string was not in correct format."

Tell me how to attach a "spoiler" so I can attach the details of this error and my dxdiag. I'm new in the forum uses even though I follow this forum for months now.
If I click continue the Launcher appears but the M2TW(let's say) internet related box does not load up, is blank and after a while appears and tell me that between other things: "To access this valuable resource you will need an Internet Connection.".

I tried many solutions from this forum and others and after I launch a game(Vanilla or any Kingdoms campaigns) the results were very different. Actually I get this pop up message next to a 1024x800(I suppose) black window:

    "Mtw2 : Fatal Graphics Error

A fatal graphics error has occured and the game will now be shut down. This is normally caused by having your game graphics options set too high, please try running the game again and lowering your graphics settings before entering a battle."

Here are some exemples of results I had:
-Steam won't launch the game because it is already running(even when there is nothing in the task manager).
-After launching the game from the launcher, the game is not showing up and the Launcher appears again somewhere else in the screen(like when you have multiple pop up boxes showing up).
-After launching the game from the launcher, nothing will work and the task manager is empty of any M2tw processes.

Here are some exemples of the solutions I tried:
    -Changing values in the "medieval2.preference.cfg".
-Changing values from 0.1 to 0,1 in "M2TWfolder>Config>Update>version".
    -Reinstalling the game.
    -Reinstalling steam.
-and many others from irishron solutions...

I don't understand what is happening, I know I'm not the only one to have this kind of problems. I was able to play the different campaigns and Call of Warhammer mod without any problems for almost a year on this computer. Then one day, without any visible reasons, the Launcher.exe process in the task manager wasn't shutting down by itself but the game was working well. I wasn't worried I thought it was a minor conflict with Call of Warhammer/Rage of Dark Gods installation.

So I think everything is said. Thanks for reading and again thank you in advance for your ideas on the subject.

PS: Empire total war stopped working in the same moment but that's another topic I think. I managed to make it work once or twice after reinstalling but I think it's due to Darthmod. I'll try a reinstall and play vanilla and let you know about it.

Delete both Medieval II Total War folders, and verify the game cache. Playing with the preferences file at times can have disastrious consequences. Move the mods to your desktop first.

I know this sound stupid but to be sure, delete BOTH folders?

    Did you upgrade Windows?

    Is this a different/new computer?

    Have you changed antivirus/firewall/security suites?

No it doesn't, the only way for us to figure this out is to ask questions.
What do you mean both folders? I've look everywhere,
Yes my windows is up to date.
    No it's the same computer.
I changed my antivirus but long after troubles started to appear. firewall ok. And security fine, but I wonder what you precisely mean by that.

There are two Medieval II Total War folders, one in Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common and the second one is hidden. http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic...EmpireNapoleon for reference where and how to get there.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...9828-SFLZ-9289 is from Steam itself. Go through its list.

If these do not cure it, attach your dxdiag.

well even though my game is installed, there is just "Empire", "Napoleon" & "Shogun2" folders in. No sign of M2.

Do you have the UAC enabled or disabled?

Do you have Steam installed in Program Files (x86) or another folder?

Could you post the .Net error message you are getting? A pic would be nice if possible.

    Hello, good morning!

So it look like we made a step forward, I just reinstalled the game without UAC and the first box(with details, see up) is actually gone. The launcher is still in the same state(no internet connection found) and when I launch the game I still get : "Mtw2 : Fatal Graphics Error

A fatal graphics error has occured and the game will now be shut down. This is normally caused by having your game graphics options set too high, please try running the game again and lowering your graphics settings before entering a battle."

a slight change to notice though, the launcher now won't close itself and I have to go through the task manager again.

My D: drive is a backup drive with only 15Go. Should I move the folders to C: Program Files(NOT x86)? Or even reinstall again?

Thinking out loud, "why do I think Windows' security BS is playing games?".

Try it with the UAC disabled, the bar pushed all the way to the bottom. This game is old enough that the UAC actually conflicts with the way it's written.

Next run Windows Update manually and install all software options but Bing and Malicious Software Removal Tool.

If this does not get you back, install Steam in another location like C:\Games to get away from Windows' security BS. I have mine on D: drive at the moment.

Anything with Program Files is not a good place to install, the reason I took someone else's advice many moons ago and made a C:\Games folder for such things.

I have not had the UAC enabled since I found it in the initial release of Vista. I am the only user of this computer and I don't need their interference. If I still had one brat living at home, things would be different.

Hello irishron, I've been doing as you said yesturday and now the game is installed again... It's not working. no changes nothing... I'll probably go back to rome Darthmod and slay greeks and romans with my gaul barbarian horde! unfortunately I think I'll just say bye to M2TW until I get a new computer... my knowledge into these beasts is too low for this kind of, if you excuse me, .

Thanks a lot for your time, I appreciate it. =)

Sometimes that's what it takes. Good luck.
