    Default Where is Malta?

    http://www.totalwar.org.pl/gallery/camp_egypt.JPG

Look at the map at the link above.

Malta is not there. Palma is, why no Malta then?

Medieval 1 had Malta & i think it was a useful island to own for strategy reasons. And then historically the knights of Malta and the famous siege by the Turks which was repelled, i think it deserved a place on the map.

the geographic location of malta is south of sicily.

if you're referring to the fact that it's not in the game, well, that could be because Malta was usually under foreign control. i.e. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies or the Kingdom of Aragon

It might still be there but not an actual province or part of another province.

Is Rhodes in the game? I think I see it.

I am unsure about just how historically and strategically significant Malta was to the major powers at the time.

I think the problem is Malta (the island) is too small to be represented in the game. If we all remember in MTW1 Malta had an enlarged image for the island becase the one on the map is too small. With the current engine you need enough space too place the city and the port which would make the island larger and not look right in the game.

But then again malta might be a nice addition to the map.

Don't you mean Southwest from Italy? Or South of Sicily?

either way, malta as a province isn't that strategic. save, maybe as a base.

malta has no real resource value except it's loaction.

I don't know How it can be "non-strategic".

I think, this is a serious oversight, not to include Malta, if even just one settlement.

The period of Arab rule lasted until 1091, when the islands were taken by the Sicilian Normans. Subsequent rulers included the Angevine, the Hohenstaufen, and the Aragonese (1283). The Maltese nobility was established during this period; some of it dating back to 1400. About 32 noble titles remain in use today, of which the oldest is "Barons of Djar il Bniet and Buqana".
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malta#History
The Barony of Djar-il-Bniet e Buqana is the most senior and oldest surviving title of Maltese nobility. It was granted by feudal tenure in perpetuity to Cicco Gatto, Keeper of the Royal Castle in Malta, Commander of the Royal galleries by King Louis of Sicily on January 4, 1350 at Messina, Sicily.

I agree that Malta is too small and really makes the AI not want to attack it, based on the fact the AI in RTW rarely attacks islands.

Aren't we suppose to have a better A.I. in M2TW?

Regardless of that anyway, the question is not about what the AI attacks but the significance in the history, compare to all the other present factions, and the simple fact that It exists.. and it's not only some faction they do not include, but they actually excluded an Island which was very influental throughout history.

I wonder how would anyone play this game, if England would not be on the map, or instead of Poland, there would be just a big lake in Its place.

Well Malta was on the RTw map, though very small, and the image linked to in the first post is the campaign selection screen, which is not as detailed as the ingame map, so malta may or may not be in.

Maybe Malta is too small to be on the minimap. We can't tell from these screenshots that Malta is not on the campaign map, can we?

If it wasn't for the Order of St John, Malta would have next to no significance in this period.

It was under Spanish control at that point, and if my memory serves, the King was more than happy to be rid of it. This suggests that it only gained a strategic importance once the Order of St John established themselevs there and started raiding against Muslim shipping (1520's onwards?).

Lovely place, lots of history, but not a major oversite on the part of CA IMHO.
