The Final FrontierThe Final Frontier is an RPG set in a time of darkness. The Kingdoms of Men have been ripped asunder by many a civil war and the Great Enemy has taken the opportunity to strike. All have fled from this Continent, Ashrodil, except from a select few from the city of Ebereth, searching for a new world, a final frontier. You play as one of the citizens of Ebereth, preparing for the voyage.
A Brief overview:
This game involves exploring a new world as a party of adventurers and eventually settling down to create a Kingdom. That being said there will be the ability to stay as a company and hire yourselves out to the various kingdoms for their wars. Eventually the game will become a slightly Genesis style civ builder but first there will be a lot of party gameplay.
Stage 1:
Part 1 of the game is an introductory period to help players get a head start on the game. It lasts for 7 days and the players RP as the last inhabitants of Ebereth. The point of Stage 1 is that players get time to prepare resources and find other players to team up with before they go. In the first 2 days you can leave at any time on a ship and you exit the stage; for the next 3 days you can buy passage on a ship with something you have found or you own. For the last 2 days entrance is so strict that you have to steal a ship to be able to leave. If your character is unable to leave Eberth then you can make a new character or use the same one but with a slightly altered backstory that they came on an earlier ship.
What players are meant to achieve in Stage 1 is gaining supplies for exploring the new world, there will be several shops and places to get supplies from. In this stage there should be a lot of stealing to get supplies or rabble rousing to get people to follow you to the new world.
If your character does not manage to leave Eberth in time then you must make a new character that won’t have got any of the bonuses of a character that obtained supplies before; this lends an element of risk and reward to the stage.
Stage 2:
Stage 2 is the stage where most of the exploration of the new world will go on.
It starts with everyone that has managed to escape landing on the shores of a new continent, your choices in the last round will influence how well you are prepared for this round. For example, you may have recruited lots of men last round so instead of having 25 in your company you have 100.
Most people will land very close together and so encounter each other almost immediately. I already have a map in the making of the landing sites and terrain inland. From here they can choose to explore in a certain direction and the mods will dictate what the terrain is with a glance at the map.
This stage will be a lot about exploring the land for loot, riches and most importantly a place to settle down. As soon as you have found a good patch of land you may enter Stage 3.
Stage 3:
Stage 3 is where the beginning of the civilisation building comes into play. In this stage your company settles down and becomes a small settlement and you have choices on how to expand your civilisation from a hamlet into a town.
Expect more info on Stage 3 and Stage 4 soon. I’m trying to focus on the first stages.
Stage 1, how to get a headstart.
In Stage 1 there will be the ability to explore the city and buy items. Every player starts with a set amount of money and ‘soldiers’. You can try to buy items that might help with the expedition, for example you might buy wood and then have that to be able to erect a camp when you reach enemy territory.
Another option would be stealing items from shops and warehouses in the city with armed raids, there is no longer any real law in the city and you can exploit that.
Every day items get cheaper and cheaper but every day it gets harder and harder to leave the city, boats becoming harder to find as more and more leave each day. Mods will do a roll each day to determine if more boats than usual have left the harbour and this will affect their availability.
As you only have a small amount of men at the beginning it would be advisable to get more, in the early stages this can only be done in one or two ways. One, merge your supplies with other players and form larger and larger groups and companies. Two, raise the citizens. This can be done in a number of ways, by showing that you are prepared for the voyage and have a high chance of survival is one. Another is to actively recruit. Rabble rousing is another way of gaining support.
