Default Adding impact vfx to projectiles

I'm making a few new projectiles as part of my artillery overhaul to replace the existing ones that don't fit so well (explosives...). However I'm encoutering a slight problem in that the only vfx available seem to be smoke, sparks, and flame, while what I would like is more of a liquid splash.

Is there any way I can apply a splash/decal effect over a large area?

Is it possible to take the boiling oil vfx maybe?

Haven't been able to do so horizontally

    EDIT

May have found a workaround. This could be interesting

    EDIT2

Well it's better than before (ignoring the terrible trail). The problem with using explosions is that it shoots the projectile at any angle, wheras a liquid would spray out more horizontally than vertically (hence the need for the smoke vfx still...)
