Amazon download and Modding
Hello everyone:
Well, I have been playing mods and even working on one for a while now. Unfortunately, my CD's were damaged (please don't ask how). I bought the Amazon.com Gold Edition digital download and that works just fine. However, mods do not. Whenever I try to run a mod, or even Bare Geomod to work on my own, I get the message:
"No disc inserted.
Please insert the original "Kingdoms" CD/DVD.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=nodisc for further, more detailed information."
The game itself, vanilla and Kingdoms, works fine without the disks. It is only when I try to run any mods where I hit the roadblock.
Any ideas?
Again, this is Amazon.com digital download of the Gold Edition, I have Windows 8.

Re: Amazon download and Modding
You will find a few threads in here already stretching back to Vista's release.
1. Log in as Administrator.
2. Disable the UAC. This game is too old for what Steve Ballmer thinks is a great "security tool". Do it in the registry for best results. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/hyperyash/ar...windows-8.aspx
3. Take ownership of C: drive. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html
4. I don't know how many downloads amazon allows before making you buy a new copy but if it's more than one, I suggest installing it in C:\Games.
Anymore trouble, let us know.

No dice. I try to take ownership of C: drive through the context menu and I get no system response (I select and nothing happens), and the ownership stays the same. I try option 2 and the command prompt says "ERROR: Access is denied". I try to change ownership through the advanced security settings and all I get is a bunch of error messages for numerous files in the C drive (not related to the game, I think) about how they could "not be enumerated" and access denied again. The ownership is unchanged, it stays on "TrustedInstaller".

You have to be the Administrator of your computer and have Administration rights to do this of which means if it's the family or work computer and another person has this control like parent, sibling, your work's IT, they will have to do it or make you Administrator of this computer.
No other way.
