Default why do I need the actual DVD during play?

I'm sure it's just me but whenever I wish to play Medieval Total War II, I'm required to have the DVD installed in the disc drive. I must not have done something right during initial installation. I'll be receiving my new laptop in the near future and it does not have an internal disc drive. I don't want to carry the external around with me when I travel so what have I done wrong? How do I install the DVD onto my hard drive so I can play without the presence of the actual DVD?

hmm, you must be new enough to pc gaming, pre-steam we all had to keep discs in our pcs to play games, so unless you have it on steam, that is working exactly as intended.

But, on the other hand, it is perfectly legal to use a No-CD Fixed EXE to get around that, as long as you own the original game. Gamecopyworld.com is a site I used years ago to do that, but I don't know if it's still around.

It's the dvd's DRM supposedly against theft.

I removed your last line because where site's server is, CA/Sega's EULA you agree to to install the game, and the Terms of Service under Illegal Activities, in this context we cannot discuss it without the wrath of the Gods.

@OP, Steam in your case is the best option.
