Default Need more really big swords and thick armour

Hey guys. I am not very happy with the medievel mods because they dont have any of the really big swords and armor that medievel people used in battle. Like I would like see knights in much thicker plate armor like in wow and awesome inch thick swords. This is how medievel soldiers fought and it was really cool.

    Dont you guys think so?

About the "authentic" thing Your description of the armours and weapons matches the fantasy theme, not the realistic medieval situation. Even two-handed swords were realy rare due to their lack of maneouvers(hope I spelled that one correctly), and I'm not suprised. Did you ever held a two-handed sword. In a battle you'd have more chances to kill an ally than enemy. They were used usually by some individuals. About tha armours, I never seen a plate you are talking about, simply because a man wouldn't be able to move in one. Maybe some individuals used things like that, but it wasn't very common(even a plate armour was rare, not to mention a "thick" plate.

A mode you are talking about would be closer to warhammer or some other fantasy theme, not accurate medieval situation To be honest, M2TW has quite well shown how the equipment looked like in medieval, the only problem is that some of the eq appears in the game a lot earlyer than it acctualy was used.

Of course we can debat about who is right and who is wrong, but when we look at artifacts from those ages, we can actualy see what they looked like I really recoment going to a historical armory, they usually have quite fancy things there

While you are correct about the OP thick plate and swords being ahistorical, I am curious as to what you about the 'lack of maneouvers' for two handed swords?

You might want to check out the Warhammer mod for M2TW.

Looks like you have very high standards Goldorax, you might have to make a mod yourself to see what you want.

Good luck with your modding efforts. In the Mod Workshop is the place search the tutorials and ask questions. There is about eight years worth of experience in there.

So, you want more units like dismounted gothic knights? More of a War of the Roses-ish battlefield with armies of dismounted men-at-arms in plate harnesses with big polearms, maces, and perhaps the occasional two-handed sword? I suppose I could see it, but keep in mind that it that that's only " how medievel soldiers fought" pretty late in the game (1400s or so), and even then only in some parts of Europe (approximately, I'd say: West of Vienna, East of the Pyrenees, and North of Naples?)

Two handed and bastard swords became pretty common after the end of the 14th century thanks to armor developments that made infantry shields (aka kites and heaters) more or less redundant, though bucklers continued to be popular for a couple centuries afterward, but their use is vastly different than a classic "knightly" shield's.

Pretty funny, but isn't it about time to add a caution against feeding the trolls?

No, it wasn't; the spear and other pole weapons were still very effective weapons, even among knights (and maces, of course). Then again, a poleax is better for facing armored opponents anyway, since swords are largely useless against plate armor unless you aim for joints, requiring you to half-sword (aka choke up on the sword by holding the handle in one hand and the blade in the other), or turn the sword around and hold the blade with both hands and use it as you would a mace. Even maille is still decent defense against slashing and somewhat thrusting, barring a very narrow blade, but is rather ineffective for blunt force trauma.

And before someone whines "You cut your fingers off if you hold sword by the blade!!1":

Important thing to say, in M2TW the units change looks with armour upgrades. If your units have best armour, you'll have plenty of troops using a heavy full plate. And most west European factions have some kind of "full plate and twohanded weapon" kind of foot soldier, or at least full plate+broadsword+shield.

Flails, maces and morgensterns would be my choice of weapon. Battlehammer could come after those, but the really effective ones(picks particulary) were developed and used since XV century, meaning the high miedieval/renaissance.

Slashing weapons would be probably my last choce, since you need sometimes a lot place for a swing, and it's not effective against armour. Of course swords are more "glorious", that's why usually they are shown as a knights equipment.

"Really heavy" two-handed swords (heavier than longswords) are believed to have been used to hack your way into thick pike formations, which became very common in late Medieval and Renaissance, by swinging them in the form of the number 8 thus pushing the pikes away to reach the men behind them.
