ooc: I'm too lazy to do the math for the exact numbers, each should be about 20,000 strong. If it comes to battle with anyone we can slow down and get the exact figures. NOTE that each castle has retained 10% of its levy for defense. Jokern for the sake of RP let's continue here instead of in the Casterly Rock thread. Feel free to RP anything, regardless of what I post below

Having determined that the armies surrounding the Westerlands were indeed much closer than anticipated, Ser Guy made immediate movements to counter these incursions. His army moved immediately to Lannisport, and Lord Reyne's forces were ordered to move south. Battle, or at least parlay, seemed imminent.

Ser Guy drew up his forces in battle array and sent word to the camp of the intruders that should they wish to not be annihilated outright their leader is to present him or herself in his presence

She had managed to send off homing pigeons to Riverrun, the Eyrie and King's Landing, even Tyrell in the field. But the speed of the rising lion was such that nigh-on forty thousand soldiers had surrounded her. Pressed between the port shore and encirclement, there was no way to follow the road to Sarsfield and maintain the hunt. But in light of the Lannister aggression, the pursuit of brigands... or as she was beginning to understand them... guerillas, was all rather an insignificant affair weighed against the full might of the Westerlands and the threat of war.

The Leffords are invited to the command tent where Ser Guy awaited the imminent arrival of Lady Sirsha to explain her armed transgressions into the Westerlands.

ooc: Ok cool, I accounted for your levy in our army numbers, but not your professional troops. in game this is how it stands:
The original brigand force has melted away into the countryside and aren't posing any threat to the Westerlands, but we do not know that. Wallace Reyne and his army are in the southern lands searching for the ghost brigand force. In the meantime we have trapped Sirsha's army somewhere either outside Lannisport or on the march to Casterly Rock. The Reach forces are in the Reach still but moving towards the border, but we don't know that either.

The Lefford party arrives in full battle gear at the command tent. Ser Ulfric waits outside while the Lord and his sons attend the council.

"Ser Guy," said Harmund in greeting, "What are our plans?"

Guy rested his right hand on the pommel of his sword.

"These...intruders...are trapped. I have sent an emissary requesting that they make their intentions known. They sent ravens to the rock but there story does not add up. They claim to be on the king's errand to capture brigands that were last seen crossing into the Westerlands, but we hve heard no reports of pilla

    Harmund chuckled.

"Entering our lands without permission, what did they expect? We'd simply allow armies to maraud through our land unchecked?"

Guy shrugged his shoulders and laughed low "This northern wench sends me a raven informing me she is invading the Westerlands, and then waves a threat of the King's warrant in front of me? I've had news from the Queen. She is supportive above all, but advises caution. She is sending the Dog to keep an eye on me. The safety of the Westerlands is our main concern, or else we are no lordly family. This army, it can be crushed as easily as we would crush a fly. If the Reach intervenes, then we are in for a long war unless the King or Queen intercede. Then I think it would go badly for the Reach."

"Yes," agreed Harmund, "but not before the Reach makes us bleed, I think."

He tapped the desk a few times, pondering.

"Hostages would serve us better than corpses. I advise capture: secure a bargaining chip against possible Reach intervention until the Queen can win the war from the Red Keep."

The King would not tolerate a second breach of the peace by the Tyrells, this Guy knew. "If Tyrell marches into the Westerlands, it will be war. It is a war I hope to avoid if possible, but given the recalcitrance of even this force, whose motives still cannot be guessed at, I fear war is upon us. I've seen ravens flying from their camp in all directions.

ooc: Hengest, we need to wrap this up somehow. It's been four days

Ooc: sorry I've been under the weather

Sirsha and her captains, Master Luwen and Ser Marsden rode out to meet the vast host and parlay.
"Well?" She called out. "Your desperate show of strength does us honour." The Vale and Northern troops, even the Sellsword company laughed with their bold sword-maiden. "Our little band must have really scared you."

Ser Guy felt his blood rising. " Insolent , you are at my mercy. You come into our lands fully armed, and then have the gall to offer insult to us, who determine whether you shall live or die? You would do well to pay homage to the lords of this land, or pay the ultimate price for your unlawful incursion."

The Northmen and Valesmen booed, with one thousand five hundred slow hisses of their swords. The Sellswords smiled, knowing their leader would stand her ground.
"No." She proclaimed loudly. "Rather it is we who are insulted by your in hospitality, by your insolence to the Crown, by your gall in abusing those who serve the peace of the Realm." Her face had likewise reddened as the adrenalin charged her. "This incursion is lawful, granted by the highest law in all Westeros- the King!" Her troops laughed at the indignant bullies, there was no disputing her rationale.
"Indeed we are at your mercy, of life and death, and like a Rat Cook you sharpen your blades with glee! Your lady, the Queen might twist this to her advantage how she might be we the people do not rewrite the law of the King's word so very easily ...for our own ends." Her men cheered.
"Do as you must, but we will do what is right!" They cheered even more. "We may be few in the eyes of forty thousand, but a thousand generations will see our honour in what we do this day!"

A message is dispatched to Lord Reyne:

    "To Lord Reyne,

I assume you have found no signs of brigands...I suspect now that their mention was only to distract us from something larger. I believe the Tyrells to be working in concert with the wench Sirsha to invade or raid the Westerlands. I request that you reposition your forces in Cornfield and engage in battle any armies of the Reach that cross the border. May the strength of the Warrior be with you and our men.

    Signed,
    Ser Guy Lannister"

Harmund joined the laughter of the invaders.

"Such arrogant squatters," he said casually after Guy's reprimand, "You'd think a Stark would've learned to show a little humility after their own vassals rose against them and took Winterfell."

He then said to Guy, in a hushed tone,
"I have family in the Reach: my son-in-law is the Hightower heir. Let me send my youngest south to find him, we can make an attempt at diplomacy."

A raven arrives at the camp, with the sigil of Lord Reyne on the letter.

    TO Ser Guy Lannister,

Your assumptions are correct, my lord. No brigands have been sighted by my scouts, I suspect that it might have been a ruse of the Stark or the Reachmen. As your command says, I will make my way to Cornfield as soon s possible and prepare for the worst. May the Seven guide us all and protect the Westerlands.

    Signed,
    Lord Wallace Reyne
