Game crash

So I got M2TW last year and played it for a bit but stopped playing for a couple of reasons. I decided to try it again a couple of months ago and everything worked well at first but then I started getting crashes.

It would almost always happen shortly after loading or starting a campaign. I’d just get a black or gray screen with stuttering sound and would have to restart my computer. It’s now happening every time I try to start a game.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reloading but nothing seems to have fixed it. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is?

The spam filter got you. The reason I said "attach".

The i7 will play the game by itself on low, maybe some medium. The 330M should play the game but there is always that "but" associated with mobile chips.

Be sure you're logged in as Administrator.
Be sure the UAC is disabled.
Try installing http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=35 with the UAC disabled.
Set the game's icon to "Run as Administrator" and "XP Compatible"
In Nvidia control Panel, be sure the game's profile is set to "Maximum Performance", not auto, power saving, etc.
www.realtek.com.tw and try installing the latest High Definition Audio codecs.

Medieval2 and laptops in general, be aware of heat issues. This game as old as it is is still a stress test.

The game ran fine on high settings just a couple of months ago. I attempted to run it on all low settings and had the same problem.

Always logged in as administrator.
Tried running with the UAC disabled, same problem.
Tried installing the DirectX stuff, was told I had a more current version.
Already had run as Admin, tried XP compatible (both service pack 2 and 3) the game kept telling me to insert the correct DVD.
Don’t see any way to change game profile’s in the Nvidia Control Panel.
Installed HAD codecs, no difference.

So after attempting everything, the result is the same.

I’ve had the computer shut down by itself presumably due to heat issues when playing a couple of games but only M2TW freezes like this.

When was the last time you opened the case and cleaned it out? It's definitely heat related.

Some members on here have had to buy a cooling pad for their laptop to play this game.

Yeah I figured it was a heat issue but was hoping it was something else. I'll give it a good clean and get a cooling pad. Should have done that a while ago. Thanks for your help!
