House Gargalen is one of the old Dornish houses who claim descendant from the Rhyonar and not from the Andals or the First Men. They came with Queen Nymeria to Westeros and established themselves as lord and ladies of Salt Shore. Their coat of arms is a Dornish round shield, displaying a red cockatrice with black snake in beak on gold. Their words are: “Salt are our enemies tears.”.
Salt Shore is a disputed lordship. There are many claims that Salt Shore is part of the highlordship of Vaith. Yet it stands proudly in depended inside the principality of Dorne. They typically have a bad relationship with the highlord of Vaith because of this.
House Gargalen usually remains close to their overlords of house Martell to protect their independence.

Lady Valena Gargalen is the eldest child of her lord father, Tremond Gargalen and according to Dornish laws, she was his heir, despite having a younger brother.
Valena seemed to be blessed by the Maid herself with beauty. She is a slender woman with womanly curves and big breasts. Her lips are full, her eyes are big and she has long, thick black curly hair. She walks with swaying hips and displays her sexuality to all men. Her attitude and beauty make her a quite seductive young woman.
Not too long ago Valena was married to an older knight but sadly he lost his life. It is rumoured that he spend too much time with their stable boys and that she lost her maidenhead to a member of house Martell.
As a Dornish woman, she is naturally suspicious of foreigners and believes in Dornish supremacy.

| Norne Gargalen |
Age: 18 in 200 AL, born in 182 AL
The second child of Tremond Gargalen, Lord of the Salt Shore, Norne is a product of the customs of the Rhoynar, his elder sister Valena gaining inheritance before him.
Regardless, Norne is more suited to being the second child, as his behavior and personality is more lax and casual than his domineering, uninhibited sister.
Unlike Valena, Norne spends his time travelling, playing instruments, engaging in odd adventures, and occasionally annoying his lady sister by sending home mocking gifts and souvenirs.
He is driven by quests for amusement, often to the chagrin or disappointment of others, rather than any admirable goal or cunning ambition.
At the young age of 12, Norne strode out on his own, leaving the Salt Shore to first squire for a knight from the Red Mountains, and then abandoning that venture to join a band of wandering troubadours and adventurers. However, now after being six years abroad, travelling Westeros and Essos, Norne is back in Dorne.
Norne is lighter skinned than Valena, inheriting a brighter tone from their Stone Dornish mother, with a dark auburn color of hair.
He is thin and nimble, but about the same height as Valena.
His chin and jaw lead to a strong point, and he has a handsomely crooked nose.
