Default AI: How good is it?

Great that you are making a medieval mod which i understand is a much more difficult as it is a total conversion mod and RTW wasnt really designed for this so great work so far

In the first Beta patch the AI werent very good they didnt do much attacking on the campagin map and really didnt attack so much at all

    and now to my question:

How good are the AI in the newest release???

Looking forward to Late and High era release

The upcomming rlease has a much better ai...not. Well, the ai is obviously the same, but the game is much better balanced, and the map much improved (and still in progress) which corresponds to the ai being able to expand much better and your game being alot more challenging.

Well I have no problem with the AI NOT attacking.
I play Brit´s, and HRE and almost France is destroy.
Work done by, Sicillia, Polen, Bøhmen and Aragonia.
Byzans is only on Islands as the where defeatet by Turks (who crush Fatamid and allmost Moor´s) and the Polish.

So, no problem in V 0.44

Well the AI is hardcoded so it's limioted what can be done about it.

The ai is hardcoded, DaerthMod and other mods tweak a few things that affect how the ai acts, and that is it, they cannot touch the actual hardcode.

AI affects for camp. map /strategy side:
    - AI characters, see descr_strat beside the faction name, start line.
    - Difficulty settings, ie. VH-camp. gives them 10.000 extra-cash every turn, and makes the AI more aggressive.
    - Some general clever codes can help the AI, as the AI always knows where it can recruit units and which, and where the most benefit in the economic view is to find (tech-tree settings, hidden_resources, resources, costs/upkeep etc.)
    - Victory Conditions affect the AI behaviour ...
    - ... and as well the starting diplo and core-attitude settings.
    - Traits & Ancillaries.
    - Map options can help the AI (AI pathfinding etc.)
    - The AI behaviour is dependant on the player's position and might, but tendencially it always likes to attack the human player, especially if the player become quite powerful.
    - extra AI scripts help the AI.
    - Rebel attitude settings

... so you see, besides the hardcoded properties, there are some possibilities, but with all these options, it is pretty hard to find the right way of codes/settings for a proper balance.

    AI affects on the battle-map:
    - AI formations codes
    - EDU codes with ...
    - DMB ...model/animation/skeleton (ie. possible speed or other direct mechanics that have an affect on the fighting abilities).
    - Difficulty setting
    - Traits & Ancillaries.
    - the chosen unit seize regarding ie. morale
    - 3d settlement/building battle-map files regarding ie. pathfinding
    - and some other files, that have an impact on the units in the battle-mode.

In Chivalry, we try to consider everything of these things. But this needs muuuch time ... so the next Chiv release will be quite solid, but certainly not perfect, as everything can get an improvement, as always. But Chiv, is intended to be an historical game-play mod, with realism parts, and not a total game-play mod.

When we know the AI is HC, I think it is a jolly good job that the mod´ers do.
I some time think on the vanila RTW and CTW or RTR etc,... then I am surprise of the work done.
I can live with that AI, only in NTW2 it is a shame they arent clevere.

In NTW2 the AI is rome-like = suicidal.

Btw, is there any date when the new pack will be released? Or at least an estimate? Would be shame if the mod died becuase MTW2 came out. Keep it up.

Oh yeah, where did you find pikemen using gothic armor? AND 16th century knights riding on horses without barding, just curious.

well, NTW2 shines in MP, and the scripted battle (or battles with an s in the future when they make the waterloo one)

as far as the date, I cant say more precisely than October, but it all depends on all the people working on it. Sometimes things get done, sometimes they dont. We do have quite a few developers active, so there is always progress. Also, I would say, quite a big beta testing team, but they are almost all new recruits, so we cant always rely on them. Infact, some of them might get cut, and since we have a new testing phase comming up, I'm sure we'll be more than happy to accept new DEDICATED testers. So if you really wanna help out the mod, and we can rely on you to do a certain amount of hours of testing and get the report in on time, then you should volunteer in the appropriate forum, or pm DaVinci or Grand Master of the Order (TK at SCC).

    Hello
well I've been a beta tester for NTW2 before it was released so I'd say I qualify . Sure I'll PM them.

You did not answer my question concerning some of the units though

Well I was hoping someone else would/will, because I really dont know that much about medieval history to tell you that. I didnt decide on or make any of those units. Also, if you asked me, I could say what exactly gothic armor or barding was. So maybe DP or someone else will drop by sometime and answer that.

I can ensure that there are no 16th century knights in a mod ending in the 15th century (1453), maybe they are looking almost similar.
