Default Ice Cubes, and my love/hate relationship with them.

    Hey guys.

So I love using Ice Cubes in my drinks, but sometimes; the ice cubes will neutralize the carbon in carbonized drinks, for example turning a sparkly, freshly opened coke flat and unexciting.

But this only happens to some drinks.

Sometimes I can drop six ice cubes into a drink and it'll stay sparkly and carbonized.
Other times I can drop just two cubes and the drink goes flat and boring.

    Why is this happening?

Honestly, I have no clue. I know soda looses carbonation through plastic, because the air leaks (hence the beginning of the use of Graphene in airtight containers.)

I don't know what Ice does to it, it probably just melts and dilutes the concentration. I hate that when I'm drinking Fruitopia.

I think it depends on the coldness of the drink when you poor it in. So if you pull a can out of the fridge and pour it in with the ice, it should stay fairly well carbonated. If you pour in a room tempreature can, the ice melts rapidly and kills the carbonation much faster. And im not completely talking about dilluting it, i'm speaking in terms of temperature reactions. I'm guessing the rapid release of air inside the ice has something to do with it. But that is just my guess...

I don't think that's the case as I had an example where I poured two drinks from an already cooled bottle.

The first glass immediately went flat after adding the ice cubes.
The second glass on the other hand retained its carbonation.

Maybe it has something to do with how you insert the ice? Dropping them and allowing them to bounce up and down in the drink vs gently placing them down into it?

That may be part of it, Wikipedia may have some answers:

This Old Ice is Fresh (Water)Since glacial ice is formed from falling snow... and snow results from condensed water vapor in the atmosphere... and icebergs are pieces of glaciers that have broken off and are floating in the water... the water from icebergs is quite pure.
Icebergs are therefore frozen "freshwater" - unlike the sea (salt) water that they float around in - and freshwater is safe to drink.
Recently, the idea of towing icebergs to countries that need fresh water has attracted attention. A company in Alaska has already harvested icebergs floating in Alaskan waters and sold the ice to a firm in Japan as a novelty. In some places, you can also buy bottled iceberg water as a way to drink very pure water.
And did you know that glacial ice can be more than 150,000 years old, or that iceberg ice cubes may pop or hiss in a drink as they let out gasses that have been trapped and compressed - likely for thousands of years? How would that be in your party drinks?

As a hard-core Coca-Cola drinker, I've always put it down to the ice cubes melting into a large amount of still water, "pushing" out the Carbonation.

The ultimate first world problem. Another good contender is this guy I know who bought a new phone that is so big that he can't comfortably use his thumbs to reach all of the screen/buttons.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, but wiser people are full of doubts.

We are working on it, that's why we are the first world, we try to solve problems, no matter how trivial they appears. Another problem of the first world is obesity, once your guy would have drank enough flat coca cola, his small hand problem will be solved.

I think Obesity will always be a problem, as long as there is an abundance of food animals will eat. Humans are animals.

The average Housecat eats better than the average person.

Gluttony will always be a problem; obesity will be solved through gene therapy.

Gene therapy doesn't work that way. It would take Generations to breed a gene into the entire population, providing you introduce the gene in the right spots. I've explored the concept of Genetic modification of our own species for intelligence, strength, beauty, whatever.

Not a subscriber, but if I were to guess, culture and environment are factors. Our politically correct culture won't allow us to shame them openly, but they get depressed anyway and congregate with similarly configured compatriots, so that the problem appears less acute.

that is a common mistake , actually its that men need to burn more energy because of heavier bones and a greater degree of muscle mass . The metabolism actually remains near enough the same so that any positive change would see equal weight loss across both sexes
