About Egypt

Hello everybody, this being my first post here and all.

I'm a committed RTW player, but up until recently have mostly had experience on playing as the Romans or the Greeks. Then I decided to go and try my luck with the Ptolemaic people across the sea, the Egyptians. You guys probably have some strategical and tactical advice for me before I embark on my quest as the great Pharaoh. What to do first, and what not to do...

All tips would be greatly appreciated.

Are you playing vanilla? I recommend installing Extended Greek mod first, If you play as Egypt. In vanilla, they are like.. Well, egyptians, while they should be more greek. You'll enjoy it a lot more with the mod.

Yup, I'm playing with vanilla, but I guess I could be tempted to try that mod too.

well take siwa and cyrene asap, when you own these provinces its good defence position against carthage and romans
after that antiochus and eastern desert cities (petra, palmyra, etc)
try to take babylonia (wonder)
make aliances with pontus and armenia asap
when you incorporate seleucids into your state youll be rich enough to take rest of the warld as you please
build temples with health bonus (especialy in egyptian egyptian cities)
when you autoresolve make armies with chariots
take crete early in the game it is good trade and strategic point
dont bother about provinces west of cyrene (to long distances low profits)

Hi. The Egyptians were my third Imperial campaign. Played on RTW V1.5 without mods on vh/vh difficulty.

I recommend you try a few custom battles using chariots. They are not bulldozers..they are mobile missile platforms yet they also have spiked wheels deadly against cavalry provided the chariots are moving. Practice a few battles to get used to controlling them before you start your campaign.

Strategically I captured regions as fast as I could securing the corner and spreading both ways around the med.

My signature has some details. Sadly imageshack has lost many of the images in technical trouble but enough remains for a flavour of Egyptian play.

control your population, exterminate all cities you capture that has more than 10,000 people, set your taxes to very hard, one thing about Egypt is the population growth is too high, a major problem when you are in the middle of the game, so try to control your population use your archer well,
