Default FATW demo for the mod_switch

For the FATW team - being short of HD space as I am, Iīve made FATW capable to use the modswitch feature of RTW, it wasnīt much, I just had to change the descr_model_battle a bit and add a slightly edited descr_banners. If you like, I send those to you, so you can upload them.

Using the modswitch is really easy. First, create a folder named FATW in you rtw directory. Then point the installer of the demo to this folder (.../rtw/FATW). You might need to copy the world folder from the RTW data folder into the FATW data folder if FATW doesnīt come with one. To the FATW (not FATW/Data) there have to be copied the folders Custom, Preferences and Saves (perhaps - Iīm not sure here) from the RTW root directory.
Now all you need to do is add edited dmb and descr_banner to the data folder.
The final step is creating a desktop shortcut, to which the the folowing entry must be added -mod:FATW. There you go - saved tons of HD space!

Sure, if there are enough interested people to still download the demo!

We're making the Corsair Invasion Mini Campaign with the mod switcher version for easier installation, but the demo could be used with the same thing too. We've had a couple of thousand downloads (about 6000-7000 for version 1.0) so I'm not sure how many people are still interested in the mod switcher version, but this can surely be nice for people who has had problems installing it...

It seems I canīt attach files to my posts, if you can do that, can you send me your e-mail via PM so I can send you the two txt files (dmb and descr_banners, thatīs all I edited). You could attach them in here. Theyīre for the demo 1.1, by the way.

Good news, I'm definately somebody who is still willing to give this demo a try, the mod looking totally gorgeous.

Ok, the file is uploaded. I need someone to try it out before I go about adding it to all the threads over the various forums (I, unfortunately, do not have the time right now). Here is the download:

Hmm. I can't get this to load apparently. After starting the mod through the modified shortcut the mod starts (i.e. I see FATW's splash-screen) and then the application goes back to dekstop.

    The error I get reads:
Script error in FATW/data/descr_model_battle at line 81 column 1, expecting skeletons
I've taken a little look at the structure of both the vanilla descr_model_battle.txt situated in Rome - Total War\Data and FATW's mod-switch altered one in FATW\Data.

I noticed the the mod-switch one seems more disorderly, is there something wrong with the coding perhaps?

In descr_models_battle Iīve done nothing but adding the FATW folder name to the directory for the mod (it should read FATW/data/models_unit/*etc*), I did not change anything else. And since FATW comes with its own animation set in the proper folder I donīt think that the lack of an animation is to blame.
Did a regular overwriting install work before?

I have never tried that before, as I said a mod_switch compatible version was the incentive for me to finally try this mod out.

This is how the dmb I downloaded looks

I'm not entirely sure, you know, but this doesn't seem normal. Did something go wrong when compressing the file or so?

In the meantime I could try and do this myself, it doesn't seem too hard and the scriptorium has a rather excellent guide on the subject.

Ps/ * : an important detail: I'm installing this on a 1.5 version (without BI), so could that be the problem?

No, thatīs decidedly not what the dmb should look like. I sent it to Apocalypsis as an e-mail attachment, no compression whatsoever. I hope it wasnīt my e-mail service that garbled it up, now that would be just embarrassing.

It seems that when I download it from gmail it becomes garbled

Can you add me to your msn, Ciaran, and we'll transfer them there.

I have now re-uploaded the files and they seem fine. I still need someone to test them out:
