Default making a submod: Custom portraits help

Hey guys, so I'm making (very very slowly) my own personal submod as I learn the art of modding... I have made edb and edu edits, and now I'm looking into fixing portraits. How do I make my own? If someone could explain or link me to a tutorial that would be great. Thanks, Deus Malum

Hi Apple God, and welcome to modding
There are some problems concerning the use of custom portraits with characters different than generals; specifically, princesses who get the custom portrait will not show it in the family tree, even if they belong to an other faction, and this may be a bit annoying, so better to give them their one via generic.

Also remember that the game "reads" the number of character in descr_strat and assign each one a portrait in a non-reandom way - and this is the reason why you get the same generals having the same portrait in every campaign.

So, if you can't use the custom_portrait route for some reason, remember to check who has the right portrait after you finished introducing new characters.

Hey Kilic ali, I need your help... So I made my portrait (which I think worked fine) and I made my own folder in teh custom portraits folder with the three portraits (dead, old, young) and then I went into the desc_strat and put in my portrait... here is the line:
    Uglag, named character, male, leader, age 45, x 183, y 215, portrait OOMM_king, hero_ability LEGION ;MM
my portrait name is OOMM_king. I opened up the game, and his unit card is blank and when I click on him his pic is just black. Do you have any idea what I did wrong? Any help would be great.

the names must be portrait_young, portrait_old and portrait_dead, so be sure there is no error in spelling first.

The folder encoding is right, else the card would have not appeared black; so the only other problem I can think is the file itself. Are they .tga? what happens when you substitute them with some of the generic working versions?

In case, upload here the files and will take a look

Ok so I did some investigating, and I tried putting fordo's portrait for his pic, and it worked. So that means I think that it's my filing name.... it says it's an xcf file, but idk how to change it if that's the problem. I'll upload the files for you.

.xcf is the default GIMP format, it should be .tga; it is done when saving the file with a "save as" function that can be tricky sometimes.

Anyway, here you are the files:
