    Default Post Apocalyptic GSTK [WiP]

In response to the interest in the Something similar yet different to GSTK thread I decided to create a new thread and codify my ideas

So basically what Im thinking of doing is taking the GSTK thread and rules and adopting as much of them with only minor modification running with them

So from what I've been thinking of, the game will be set in 1487, a few years after the end of the good old days timeline of GSTK stopped. In this timeline, the Kingdom of Ryn goes to explore america and the explorers come back with a plauge that wipes out something like 40-50% of the population. And because this is close to the time of the peasants war and the run up to the reformation, theres major social and religious upheaval. Cults start to pop up and heretical sects and demagogues come into business, churches are attacked, peasants turn on their lords and everything generally goes to hell

So basically, civilization has collapsed above the county level. The biggest players can have is a barony or perhaps a few hundred followers if you want to go the religious leader/peasent rebel/bandits in the forrest/refugee route. Old players can show up with some powerbase and through RP can conquer their old lands, but new players also have a shot and are not forced to play by the old guys rules.

And with this new setting, you can essentially do what you want. Want to re-create the kingdom of Ryn or your old barony, cool go ahead. Want to restore the English crown or purge heresy and create a theocracy, knock yourself out, want to lead a peasant revolution or spread a new religion, rock on. In this setting, theres still ties to old GSTK, but theres less of the stifling rules and conventions and expectations that the new GSTK replays had.

Im purposely not going to define factions or have a super strict ruleset or tell players how to play, because I want to give players the most freedom and flexibilty possible and bring back the days of good old mad fly by night GSTK. If you can dream it up, ask the mods if its not to crazy, and go for it.

    Xion

Ill keep an eye on this, though i would like a bit of more explanation. this will solely be taking place on Britain? What are the groups still in power? is there a group in power? Is it more Fallout-esk or Dark ages. What is the state of the....state.

Generally the British isles. Though And think the peasants war meets the black death meets the 30 years war. There really is no group in power, thats one of the major desgin ideas of the game, players are free to do what they want within reason.

In this game, were going off the timeline of God Save the King from about 2008-2012 which went about 150 years of game time. In the game, their really wasnt much of a central government. You had the King and the royal lands and to an extent the royal army, but most of the countryside was ran by either semi independent Duchies and principalities and even the royal lands were ran at the county level by NPC Barons.

So esstinally, the state of the state isnt, but the state was never really strong to begin with. I mean, you have the king and royal court either die or go into hiding, the royal army dissapates, major population centers empty out, and long range travel is severally limited and you can very easily see how the state can cease to exist above the local level.

Add in religious and peasant unrest and famine and essentially you have a free for all sandbox

Though if I had to take a stab and guessing what the situation would be I would guess you would have some nobles ruling their local area, the church having saw over a few other areas, some cults and hertics spread around, a few peasant rebel bands, probably a fair number of bandits out of professional soliders who took to the woods when everything went to hell, and perhaps some remnants of the royal army and court scattered about

Go ahead, thats the beauty of it. Though if you made a democracy, it would be like the swiss cantons, so no muskets, constitutions, dudes with wooden teeth, gay german drill sergeants, drunken redneck sharpshooters, or bald eagles

Now, I loves me my Warhammer both fanasty and 40k, gong for the re-creation of the imperium is going to be a bit hard in this setting because there is no magic for players to use, psychics, or supernatural elements (however badass your character is, he is just a normal dude) or non human races that threaten humanity. Also while there will be hertics and whatnot, most of the population will be christians.

Though if you the kind of guy who wants to keep up the hardcore, hack and slash heretic purging and iron fisted state building, I would suggest you go in the direction of a fanatical Catholic theocratic crusading order/mini state. Say all christendom and secular poltical authority were sinful and that brought on the fall and they must eitehr join you or be purged in fire.

I was thinking about an imperium with the first, and capital, region being the Isle of Man.

Doesn't look like it, Zectorman. LW appears to be trying to bring back vanilla GSTK, not this idea.

Ace, let's the number of GSTKs to maximum of one. Otherwise you risk thinning your playerbase between the two games.

I see the appeal of this but I think it is important to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. People who lost what they once created can recreate it or can create a completely new path without any strings of the past. Also I don't like the idea of starting a medeival game in the 1400's when that was really the end of the Middle Ages

Ehhh I disagree, the time period of the late middle ages to early modern period(late 15th century to the end of the 30 years war) in my view is MUCH more interesting, and the disaster I want to create would knock society back and would allow people to start with a clean slate

I dont know, the current GSTK rules you have is just like the other restarts we did. I would agree to disband my proposal if you add something in to shake everything up. Have some invasions or a religious revolt or peasant uprisings or all three go on. Im just tired of doing the norman angle and kissing up to higher ranked players and whatnot, I would rather have something fun and exciting and unorthodox go on

And I would very much not have a drawing for ranks, but instead have everyone start off at a low level then claw their way up, I liked the idea with the NPC nobles

You've not actually wiped the slate clean though... So far you've just copied the same ruleset from the last 2-3 restarts and as such you're in danger of going the same way as them. Take Baldrick's for example, to truly start afresh then at most you should only be offering weapon and armour upgrades...
